Rolex Books

Are there any good books about Rolex watches, its history and movements. I need to learn more about the engineering inside the Rolex. Any pointers would be highly appreciated.

I collect watch books as well as watches. I've been meaning to make a post about this for awhile.

For beginners general reading I would recommend:
https://shop.hodinkee.com/collection...reaking-models

and

https://www.amazon.com/Rolex-Story-F.../dp/0764345974

Once you graduate from those you can check out Mondani books or 100 Superlative Rolex Watches by John Goldberger, although it can be hard to find that one now. Golberger does now offer a PDF version of his book on the Apple Store.

https://itunes.apple.com/en/app/vint...415274747?mt=8

If you really want to get crazy, I love Pucci Papaleo, but I realize the price range isn't for everyone

I have several. Dowling & Hess is the only one that I refer to often for historical info, and would never sell.

Like Adam said, The Best Of Time by Dowling and Hess is quite useful and packed with history and specs.
Issues #1 -6 of Rolex The Magazine are nice reads as well.

I got one a couple of years back from my AD when I got my D-Blue.
Hard to come by now unless you're willing to pay.

Danny sorry for the late reply. I don't there is specifically one I would recommend as they all have some negative points about them. Either they are dated, or contain errors or omissions, hence I like to read around the subject to get a consensus.

Another consideration is cost. The above list range from £20 to hundreds of pounds each. I started with the cheapest to get a basic understanding and appreciation of the references before moving on to watch specific books like on collecting submariners or gmt master.

I am looking forward to receiving the book written by Brunner at the end of month.

Another generic book with good reviews is The Wristwatch Handbook: A Complete Guide to Mechanical Wristwatches by Ryan Schmidt. This I ordered today.

Thanks for the many references to our book.

Ours is long on verbiage and not as "picture oriented" as many for sure

That said, I have most of the books listed above. And heartily recommend all of them, including my old friend and colleague Osvaldo Patrizzi's books.

But if you really want something over the top, save up your nickels and dimes and call in favors from your wife and family and scrape the coins out of your couch and bite the bullet and get the Pucci Papaleo books. Quality work. And, the guy knows his stuff and is without doubt the current guru of Daytonas.

I recenly sold a rare daytona for 75k and it was returned when the buyer told me a major auction house said it was fake. I knew it was not fake but just a very rare example. I reached out to Pucci through an Italian dealer and Pucci was able to confirm that my watch was indeed a rare late variant. Armed with this info I was able to get 130k for my watch.

This guy is the real deal. And yes, his books are expensive. (my wife is always struggling to buy gifts for me and I always tell her I need nothing and I want nothing...but I strongly hinted to her about Pucci's books and she came through... for real...figure out a way of getting one.

I got this book off eBay... it is a good read, however it does also kinda read like a catalogue/sales brochure - I can't say I read it and learnt anything I didn't already know, but it's a good concise recording of all things Rolex, and all the meaning behind parachrom this and cerachrom that.

Worth getting hold of, but don't pay too much.
