The arrogance of fans of modern Rolex is pretty staggering sometimes.

Rolex has evolved into a luxury brand and has the finishing to match. But the classic bracelet comes from a time when it was first and foremost a manufacturer of rugged, reliable watches. What you call 'flimsy' is a comfortable light weight. They seem to have done a pretty good job of keeping the watch on their owners' wrists over a pretty long period of time in every condition you can imagine.

It's a great watch, probably the best watch ever made, even to this day. It's just so useful for doing the job it was built for, telling the time, no matter which timezone you may be going to, or have just come from. No other watch I can think of does it so well with such beautiful simplicity and ease of use.
Must agree- GMT is truly one of the greats - classic look that will never fade over time!

Classic modern GMT as always. Reliable and functional. Good as daily beater.

I tried to explain it with the classic car analogy. Yes, some of the features in these old cars are outdated and not comparable to today's modern designs. But they still have charm and they're desirable.

You can't measure everything in numbers or even with common sense. I love the old Rolex Oyster bracelet (even with all its faults). And like I said, none of the "homages" ever captured the "silky feel" of it.

It's why the Miata has been beloved by car lovers since its debut. It captured the feel of a classic British roadster, when Aston Martìn and all had moved on to making supercars.

Perhaps Tudor is to classic Rolex what the Miata was to classic MGs.

This might be a good addition to my review. Great article that explains all the variations of the old GMT. Cheers.

Indeed. I hope JJ is enjoying his blue TT Sub and reading this group in the clouds somewhere. RIP.

With it's versatility and ease of changing parts, (3 bezels and 2 bracelets) to make it look 6 ways. Rolex will never make another like the 16710.
They would prefer you buy 6 different watches.
