First Rolex, First Post

Hi All,

Just purchased my first Rolex (pre-owned) for my wife for XMAS. Its a Ladies Datejust w/channel set diamond bezel, oyster bracelet and a Serial Number of 922xxx which dates back to 86-87. Is this considered vintage? I bought it at a spur of the moment at a jewelry show and paid $2900 - is this a fair price?

Now I have Rolex fever and I may just need to get one myself.

Thanks!

Welcome to the forum.
Sounds like a fair price depending on condition.
Most likely an aftermarket bezel, any pic's?

Welcome to the forum.
Now, listen carefully. Don't fight the urge! It will continue to plague you--run out right now and buy one! J/K
Seriously. It's a great brand. If you purchase from a good dealer, you will not be disappointment.
Cheers!

I will have to get some pics when I get home. (Need to get it out of its hiding place so the wife and/or kids don't find it). The jeweler, is actually my friends jeweler, and is reputable as my friend does probably $50-100K worth of business with him a year. He did say it is aftermarket diamonds. BTW - the dial is a bluish/purplish mother of pearl and is in like new condition. The band, as the jeweler says, is as straight as a honeymoon d***. :) <he said it not me >

A blue MOP dial?

Can't wait to see it.

Not a dark blue, but rather an iridescent bluish color that has some light purple and pink hues. The dial also has diamonds in place of numbers/numerals.

So an aftermarket dial as well, but is it a MOP?

From what I understand yes, I think the jeweler referred to it as an aftermarket black mother of pearl dial (even though the color is not "black") with an aftermarket channel set diamond bezel - if that makes sense.

This is what the dial looks like from a pic i found on the net. Actually the entire watch looks the same if you can imagine the bezel being channel set diamonds.

Thanks I just wish I could afford it...it will be a while before I get one on my wrist. With a stay-at-home wife and two kids, I'd rather do without to provide for them!
