Please help me ID this watch

This was my mother's watch, purchased new (I believe) in the late sixties. Serial number 267XXXX with movement 1161. The case had the number 6517. Sorry for the crappy picture:

Long story short, my mother gave it to my (now divorced from my brother) sister-in-law around 10-20 years ago, who has now given it to my niece. Problem is, my sister-in-law damaged the watch some time ago by going swimming with it- there was water seen under the crystal, and the watch is now "20% functional."

I would appreciate it if someone here would help me more specifically ID this watch, give me an idea of when it was manufactured, and assuming the movement would have to be completely replaced, would it be worth getting it repaired?

Thanks much.

Based on the serial, 2.6 mil, it places the year production near 1970-71. The model is 6517.

Have a watchmaker pop the back to see the extent of the damage.

Thanks for the info! Right now my brother in NoCal has the watch, it was hard enough to get him to send me a pic, let alone take it to a jeweler to have it looked at. I am guessing that the cost of repair would exceed what the watch would be worth....

Yes, probably an expensive repair. But for me this watch would have a high emotional value and I would have it repaired regardless

Yeah, it does in a way....my mother passed away last summer; funny thing is, she never really liked my wife and basically gave everything of value (diamonds, china, silverware, etc.) to my two sister-in-laws. My wife and I are celebrating 25 yrs together, my two brothers are long divorced, go figure.

Ha ha, obviously no hard feelings from your side, all the more reason to get it fixed and keep making fun about it

Yeah, I'm still trying to figure that out ; my brother smokes a lot of pot. For a guy who (supposedly) works in IT, a simple yes/no is beyond his abilities to respond. "Does the watch work?" is a question I have been trying to get him to answer for weeks now.

Well, in case you were wondering, I am now told "20% functional" means that when he winds the watch, it runs for about 10-20 seconds, then stops.

Usually a service at a proper shop will be 5 or 600 bucks if it is not rusted out.. The watch will be worth much more than that if repaired.

It would certainly be worth repair if it has sentimental value and is a lifetime watch when cared for.

It can be repaired. It's an OK watch with thousands of them out there. If a keepsake repair it, if not pass it on.

Well, the final decider is that my wife would prefer a new* Rolex! I don't think my brother will even make the effort to take my mother's watch to a jeweler, and if he did I doubt he would pay for a repair.

I assumed that 20% functional meant it told the correct time twice a day.
