Central Watch in GCT?
Anyone ever used Central Watch for vintage Rolex servicing? Ive used them for appraisals and pressure tests, but never for a servicing. If so, what did they charge you? My 5500 is getting a bit tougher to wind and is kinda telling me in its own way that its "time." Thanks!

Long-time family business. Have toured their service facility, it is first-class. Have known the family for decades. Not cheap. Maybe 15-20% less than RSC.

Rolex quoted me around $800.00? Cw is that steep? Or at least in that range? Have you ever used them for a watch?

I tried Dimitrie Vicovanu On 47th street for my '64 Omega cal 600 last November and wasn't happy with the work. The watch still has most of the problems it had before I sent it in. I wish there was someone competent to work on vintage Rolex there. Maybe there is..I just haven't found them..

Since 2004, I've been going to Manhattan Time Service on 46th. Personally, it's the only place I trust - excellent service.

Many people don't understand the deal with 47th Street. If you have an exceptional (watch related, let's be clear) problem that no one can solve, I am willing to PM you with my watchmaker's details. If I publish his details, he won't necessarily be happy. He's already swamped. Some of my "projects" have been "back-burnered" for months. And I'm a good customer. Of course he's great. But if I give him to you and you start sending him routine stuff, even less of my stuff will get done. There are some great people there (in the District), and some also-rans. When you find a good watchmaker, be respectful and generous and patient. Don't refer more work to him/her without asking him/her first.

In answer to question: yes, CW is in that price-range. I believe they do have a parts account, though. They have worked on dozens of my watches over the years, including Rolex.

Ok, thanks for the reply. I like that they have a parts account, so I will probably go with them. Thanks!

Send to Rik at Time Care inc. You'll get it back much faster even taking shipping into account. He'll also be less expensive than Grand Central AND he has a parts account

Have thought of that, considering all of the great reviews I've heard on him here. Im just scared to send my watch in the mail. This is my only Rolex, that I have a bunch of memories already with, so i'd be crushed if it got lost in the mail.
What does Rik usually charge for a full service and a polish? The watch also has some mild corrosion on the case lip that needs to be looked at.. Thanks! |
