ODB Airking journey!

I just wanted to do separate thread on the journey of the ODB Airking I bought that needs some love.

Today I placed an order for $1k's worth of parts to get the movement going in it. But right now I will stick with an aftermarket sapphire crystal to get the watch back onto my wrist. I do have a Milgauss bezel on the way in to replace the damaged one (I hope it fits).

Later on I will have some case welding done to bring it back to og state.

i think the guy borrowed his friends watch to do a video review online, left it on the top of the car with the box, drove off and it got run over on the highway.

he paid his friend in full for it.

Good luck...but if you're spending 1k on replacement parts, I wouldn't put an aftermarket crystal on it. Just my thoughts.

Og crystal used is $540, new is almost $1k. So it isn't a good option right now. Not to mention an aftermarket crystal will perform just as good as the stock version.

its gonna wind up a fraken' anyway so I'd probably go aftermarket too......

I don't think it's feasible to put all OEM back........

Just buy a new AirKing i guess?

But I understand the feeling if you are able to resurrect this dilapidated Rolex.

Interesting you bought it for $600.00.

If I remember correctly, didn't that guy collect some money via a gofundme to repair the watch?

Anyone here familiar with the story?

He posted that video asking for donations. Then he deleted it from youtube because of all the backlash. Some watch reseller sent him a Bell and Ross for reviews and some props on youtube. Instead they got some backlash also.

Funny his current video looks like he prospered well. He has some new editing tools and some new video equipment it seems. So I think he came out of this in the positive for sure.

Now assembly has started. We knew that as this happens we will notice certain things will be damaged we couldn't see before. So we just had to order a train wheel and second wheel. Another $150 into the movement.

Oh and USPS lost my aftermarket hands and crystal. No they weren't insured since they were aftermarket versions.

But we are still going forward.

Really interesting especially with the back story. But doesn't this delve into "how to make a franken rolex" territory? Is that allowed here?

Definition of a franken watch? This one is over 95% oem.

It should be assembled soon. That is if repair work slows down, customer watches come first. So this one is on the back burner at the moment.

That's unfortunate as this would have been an interesting one to follow along as it was rebuilt.
