That's a big NO! It's not a SD, it's a thick sub. Rolex ruined what was the best diver they had.

Keep it! If you can add the 43 without flipping it, great!

I voted to keep and add only because I feel there's room for both in a collection.
I will say that the SD43 wears a lot smaller than I thought it would, which is a good thing. I wouldn't be to quick to judge until you've actually tried it on. It's a very wearable daily IMO The bracelet is done perfectly, and I personally think the cyclops is a welcome addition. |

Keep the SD4K as you'll struggle to replace it in the coming years, the SD43 will always be available once the hype surrounding it has subsided there will be one in very AD.

I wouldn't, but can't wrong with either.
I prefer the SD4K for its size. The SD43 is all about the hype, size and slightly better movement. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I'm not getting rid of my SD4K to make room for the new '43. However, if I were in the market for a Submariner Date 116610LN, then I would choose the new SD in a heartbeat despite the higher price. It's just a better looking watch IMHO.

I would either keep and add or just keep. I wouldn't flip. the SD4K was a short run and who knows what its like in the future. Look at it this way...how many people flipped their 4 digit Daytonas for a 5 digit Daytona? Prob a lot...was that a good trade in the long run...DEF NOT. Every trade I have ever done was a mistake in the long run bec they were desirable rare pieces. Question at the time was money and how much I wanted to spend. So at the end of the day I would just add later.

I voted to keep the SD 4K. It's just a better fit for me than the new model. Too bad they couldn't keep both in the lineup.
The new one does fill a certain niche that the old one couldn't quite fill: a dive watch in between the Sub and Deepsea in overall size and presence. For me, though, the Sea-Dweller 4K ceramic was the perfect contemporary Rolex dive watch: Classic size and case shape, with all the recent enhancements, including ceramic bezel, maxi dial, the latest lume, gridlock bracelet, et al. It also provided a discrete (meaning no cyclops) date complication. Its superior depth rating (as compared to the Submariner) is impressive, as was its predecessor and its successor, although for me there is no practical advantage there, apart from bragging rights. For someone who needs or wants a dive watch that is larger than the Sub but smaller than the Deepsea, the new model should be a hit. |

Keep and add if you have the cash. Contrary to what I originally thought, I'm now under the impression that the SD4K will appreciate in the long run.

Add it if you can. I definitely wouldn't flip one for the other.

What is your wrist size? Let's be honest, both these watches are very similar, except for the size difference. Do you want a bigger watch?

I voted flip it. If you really want the SD43 then why have two very similar SD's when there are so many other watches out there that you could enjoy.

Hey guys - i'd like to revisit this thread and see if anybody changed their minds now that the SD43 has been in the market for a couple of weeks.

I said keep both....and have now owned both for a few weeks. Putting serious thought into flipping the 116600 not out of need, but because I am pretty certain it will see very little wrist time now.
The potential for the value to go up is gnawing at the back of my mind but that is not why I hang onto watches...I enjoy wearing them, not speculating on value increase. If it was a slam dunk it'll appreciate 1000's in a year then it'd be silly not to sit on it. But I doubt that is the case here. Besides, then I'm well on my way to a Sky Dweller when available if I pull the trigger there...easier to deal with my wife when I can say I sold something to fund the new one... |
