Rolex DRSD Tropical
I was offered this Rolex DRSD with tropical dial. The picture sent is not so clear but it looks like a MkIV dial. Based on the website of Ed Delgado, it seems that the "chocolate dials" happened only in the MkII variant. The owner swears that he has had the watch for a long time but I am still not convinced unless the experts in this forum can confirm its authenticity. Would appreciate your comments. Thanks.

Can't say much based on that weird, messed-up/edited photo. If that's all you've got to look at, pass.

Yeah, that is quite possibly the worst pic I have seen on the forum.

With the price these are selling for now you've got to either see it in person or get lots and lots of much better photos before even considering to buy.

Agree 100 percent with the above comments, but that aside ....
Maybe the seller's definition of "tropical" is different than the accepted definition for the DRSD. Perhaps it's just a faded dial with patina or other aging. |

Why is it so hard with today's technology to take a decent photo? A picture taken with a cell phone while wearing the subject watch can easily result in a crystal clear, detailed photo. It's hard NOT to take a clear shot.

The owner is a 70 year old gentleman who i guess is not so adept at taking photos using his phone camera. I will inspect the watch next week and will compare it with my mklV drsd. My only concern is whether or not the tropicalization happens only on mkll dials?

As far as I know, there exists no MK IV with tropical dial. Only MK II......

Best of luck! (My guess is that the dial isn't tropical and that it in real is black) |

The photo is very bright or and not exposed properly. With a proper photo and appropriate contrast, I would venture to say that the dial is much darker than that photo.
Additionally, any matte dial can fade, it's dependent on the elements and the circumstances in which it was worn. As far as it being tropical, or exhibiting a brownish tint, it is hard to judge that for sure, but my initial reaction is that it doesn't appear tropical to my eyes. It might be faded but better photos would help for a proper evaluation.

By the reflections on the crystal it appears there are mutiple overhead lights, and on the left is the crown of possible another Rolex. Like maybe photo in a showroom display case. As rare and tempting as this redhead is, I'd want many more photos and even a short video (maybe even FaceTime) before sending $. Photo editing alone are concerning.
