1960's Submariner

Hey guys, first post. I'm doing my fair share of reading and learning about Rolex watches before I buy my first one.

With that said, I got to check out my father's 1960 Submariner he bought overseas when he went to Vietnam.

The model is 5513 and the serial is 9788**. (6 digits)

By looking at the dial, I noticed something is a bit off about the size of the inner ring. It covers up a lot of the dial on the outside. Can anyone explain whats going on here. My father said the watched had been serviced sometime in the past and maybe someone messed something up.

Can anyone tell me what I can do to fix this?

There is a chance the serial may begin with a 1 making it 1,978,8**. This makes more sense since the 5513 model started in 1966

Get a crisp, clear close shot of the dial with out the hands obstructing any of the writing. This will help us. That dial probably doesn't belong in that case.

Thanks Texas. I have been researching the 5513 and found the serial calls for a Meters First dial. Obviously this dial is not the original and the hands have also been replaced.

Question: I've searched online a little and you d its not going to be easy to find a period correct Meters First dial.

I think I've answered my questions about the watch. Can anyone suggest a good starting point to look for the correct dial and hands?
