Minor flaw on Daytona question

I let a jeweler friend look at my new Daytona and he noted a slight imperfection on the dial when viewed through a magnifying loop. A little hard to see in my photo but on the letter "L" at the end of the word Perpetual there is a tiny glob of clear material at the top of the "L". Don't know if it is oil or perhaps lacquer, but it is about 2-3 times as wide as the width of the letter. Watch is about 3 months old. It is difficult to see with the naked eye. I realize we have a 5 year warranty that should cover this. Would you suggest getting it back to the dealer for factory repair, or waiting a few years in case any other possible issues pop up. (not likely I realize). Love the watch. Hate to take it out of service. Thanks in advance.

I find dial imperfections are rare when it comes to Rolex. In this case, I'd ask your ad to pay for shipping to RSC, Dallas if possible. I've never heard anything good about rsc NYC.

If it can't be seen by the naked eye I'd just live with it - for now at least.

Agree - since it's the dial (which isn't exposed), it would be pretty tough for Rolex to claim it wasn't a defect in the dial caused by Rolex that would be subject to warranty repair...even if it isn't within the 5 year window. Case in point, I took my 116520 Black dial to the Dallas RSC years ago as there was a scratch on the dial that was only obvious under certain lighting conditions. The watch was not under warranty, but they put it under a loop and agreed the dial had a blemish. Since it was clear that I could not have caused the scratch, they replaced the dial free of charge.

Change needed.

I can see it as well. Yeah, that sucks, especially on a watch with that type of premium. I'd personally get it taken care of, rather than living with it with diminished enjoyment. I'm sure your AD will foot the shipping bill, and rightfully so.

Godspeed.

If I could see that with my naked eye it would drive me nuts. If you can live with it, good for you! If not, I recommend taking it back to the dealer to get it squared away.

Thanks for the responses. Will check in with my AD and see what he says. Agree pretty OCD on my part so may just wait till year 4 or 5 to turn it in depending on what AD says.

Ive seen plenty of dial imperfections. ESPECIALLY with sunburst dials.

I challenge some of you guys to check your sunburst in direct sunlight. Sometimes you can see pronounced lines that look more like scratches.

Heaps of ppl on here have that issue and I've had a few members PM me regarding that as well.

Don't do anything! Keep that Dial. That is destined to become the BLOB Dial and will be worth thousands and possibly Millions of Dinars!

Good luck with the Repair...

I see it, and would be bothered. The precision craftsmanship and near perfection are why nice watches are worth the price to me. I would get it fixed asap, you are entitled to every bit of enjoyment that a perfect specimen would bring you.

If you have to scrutinize a watch dial with a loupe, you are in the wrong hobby, IMO.

I'm pretty anal about such things, but it's so hard to see that I could probably ignore it and be happy. Sure, on such a premium watch we expect perfection, and rightly so. But especially with it being so small and clear, I'd let it go.

Go over to the Patek forum - it's all watches. At least Rolex run reliably, more or less.

I have a horror story about rsc dallas, but there are bad apples everywhere.

It would bother me also. Funny how something even that small will drive you crazy once you notice it. I have a similar issue with my 16622, and it makes me not even want to wear the watch.

This is unfortunate OP. Especially as it's a manufacturing imperfection.

I can eventually live with chips/ dings, but these are my doings.

I would not accept a manufacturing default and would return it.

I'm assuming your crystal is dirty and water stained in your pic? I can see the offending mark and it's bad IMO. In fact I'm surprised that got through QC as it's easy to see with the naked eye let alone under scrutiny with a loupe during QC.

Are all the circled on the crystal?

I own a 10X loupe. I use it to remove splinters. I never would want to look at my Rolex watches through it. I try hard to avoid unnecessary self inflicted pain. I accumulate scars and wrinkles. Watches accumulate scratches. If I squint my eyes a little, I don't see my wrinkles nor do I see the scratches on my watches. I'm happy.

If you can't unsee it and it's driving you nuts, change it out, but do yourself a favor: don't use a loupe on the new one

Have to agree a loupe and high magnification can sometimes be a new Rolex watch owners worst enemy.
