Seems like 2020/2021 is the year of the silly price rises. The easiest way to maintain perceived value is to keep rising prices. Supply/Demand curve. GS doesn't have any problem selling out on their limited releases.

Well it may be perfect true. According to the new president of Seiko group, interviewed recently by Financial Time, “When I went to America, brand perception [Grand Seiko] was really low,” he says. “Retailers told me there was a huge price difference and consumers wouldn’t appreciate it.” (https://www.ft.com/content/eabf51ad-...3-068451fc75f4).

Based on that GS may seek ways to change its brand perception through new models and price increases.

It’s a watch geek brand anyone in the hobby know how above par GS is for the price. And I always though that for the money you get 10x more of a watch. Just let the new ores of GS come talk to me I’ll change his mind.

I don't think there's anything that Seiko could do to increase desire for GS.
One can dislike the style, but they are, objectively, great watches.

Some people simply can't bear the thought of spending thousands on a watch without it being obvious; "Seiko" on the dial doesn't sufficiently communicate their wealth and status to the common riff raff, who would otherwise be in awe at a Rolex or Omega....

The flaw I see in this approach is that you can get a new GS from a grey dealer right now for less than MSRP pretty much across the board (maybe aside from a few limited models.) The same even holds true if buying from an AD.

I could see a raise in price for a brand like Rolex or AP where MSRP isn't an option. But when MSRP already is above market value for GS, it may hurt the brand from people just not considering GS now that the list price is inflated even more above real market value.

I may be wrong, but that was my initial reaction.

I recently bought a White Birch from a UK AD and a 20% discount didn’t take too much negotiation to obtain.

Wow there was no wiggle room when I went to try and put a deposit down. I ended up putting it down on a cartier instead.

Good for you, but that's unusual nowadays with GS, in the States anyway.
