I would say Rolex steel can be tool watch before the hype in price. Today steel bracelet sport Breitling Tudor Omega Panerai are the best you can buy for everyday watch.
Rolex was a tool watch but today becomes close to unobtainable, rather than waiting for years for it or pay crazy premium in secondary market : here are the alternative
Breitling is for someone that love busy looking dial
Omega is for someone that love adventure
Tudor for someone that want to have fun
Panerai for someone that does horse like heavy hitting task

I agree that Breitling have historically been large and busy looking. The new direction of Breitling is a bit more subdued in many models.
I chose these for their simplicity and value as everyday watches that can take a beating and always look great.

I own 5 Rolex love them, but I also feel that my Breitling never disappoint. As many have said, resale value goes to Rolex, but I have had no indication in durability or accuracy that these brands are not equal.
