Icon5 Herman Miller Embody

I'm wondering if anyone here owns a Herman Miller Embody?

I'm looking to upgrade my home desk chair and would like to get some opions on this particular model.

It is for home use only, just a couple of hours of gaming, browsing & watching a week.

My current chair is a 7 year old faux leather gaming chair and it is breaking my back. I definitely need to get that incinerated asap.

Subscribed. I’ve been eying a HM chair too for the same usage. Seems like aeron is the popular choice.

Try it on if you can. Everyone’s body and preferences are different so some chairs might be better for one but not someone else.

I have Aeron at home and Steelcase Gesture at work and prefer the Steelcase Leap best out of the three.

I've had my Herman Miller Mirra for over 10 years in my home office, I absolutely love this chair. I work from home so it gets 8-10 hours of use per day, still like new. Hardly any cushioning, just firm mesh suspension. I think it's the absence of squishy material with a fabric covering that allows it to stay like new for so long.

If you can try it out first at an office supply store, that's best. You'd want to make sure the chair back hits your lumbar spine just right after adjustment, there is proper length thigh support, and adequate max height.

I used an ancient Aeron for awful hours everyday for years. The only problem I had was with the mesh in the winter; it was a bit chilly . . . . I can only imagine how much better that company has made its chairs over the years since I got this other popular model.

I absolutely hated the Aeron even though it was wildly popular.

It was mainly because of the rigid plastic sides of the seat sloping upwards... I'm a weirdo, at times and like to sit half cross legged with my leg tucked under (however you call that) and the rigid sides dug into my foot in that position.

My current new office chair has a similar problem, though not as bad. But it looks cool.

The wifey and I have Aerons. They’ve been great. Adding a headrest to them makes them even better.

She’s very petite so having the option of a size A Aeron made a huge difference to her at work. When she retired they let her keep the chair (I actually paid 50% of the cost as they were too cheap to buy it outright but that’s another story… )

Having spent some time on Reddit and Youtube I have found that a LOT of people are complaining about the HM Embody. The chair tends to creak and squeak a lot.

Will have a look at the Aeron.

I purchased the Aeron 20 years ago. It is by far the best purchase I’ve ever made. Mine was rebuilt twice over the years at no cost. I cannot recommend it highly enough.

One of the companies I worked for had Aerons in all of its conference rooms all over the country. They were a god-send, given how boring the conference meetings were. When they sent us all home to work, years ago, I went through a couple of Office Depot type chairs before I bought the Aeron. I’ve had it about 20 years too.

X2 on the Steelcase Leap. I replaced an Aeron with the Leap and was in heaven.

I have the berry blue one with white back/base and translucent caster wheels. I've had it since 2014 and it still feels and looks brand new. I'm a software engineer that works from home and sat in it 5-10 hours a day almost every day since. The only negative is that it is a little noisy but it feels solid.

Thanks guys

I'm going to order the Aeron, too many complaints about noise for the Embody, and noises tend to annoy me easily so that is a big nono for me.
There's an offical retailer here who now has 200€ off on the Aeron models.

Next step is the Eames lounge chair, lol

Which retailer if you don’t mind me asking? I’ve been looking for a new home office chair as well. Costco, believe it or not, sold a Herman Miller chair. It was small and simple and my dad bought one for himself. The thing is amazing. So comfortable and it’s my office chair. I have been looking at buying new home and office chairs for several years and Herman Miller is my first choice, just quite expensive to do the whole office. I’d love to get $200 off. Post or PM me if you don’t mind.

The retailer is called Bowerkt, they're in Oss, The Netherlands.

How much is an Aeron today? I’ve had one for a decade and can’t remember what it cost me then.

I’ve had the Embody for 5 years now. Looks like new still and very comfortable. I ultimately went with it because of adjustability. I’m 6’3” and the adjustable depth was really nice. It does slightly creak but not a deal breaker. I went to Herman Miller factory in MI and tested all of them. Embody is the only one I would choose from Herman Miller after testing all of them. I would go with Human Scale If Embody doesn’t work. Good return policy if you don’t like it Embody.

My Embody is going on 8 years and holding up great. Been a godsend these past 18 months WFH. Never noticed the noise before, but I suppose it does have some creaks.

SearChart - not sure what your timeline is, but Herman Miller (at least stateside) usually has a semiannual sale in spring and fall. If you can wait until end of October/November they do 15%. Applies to Eames chairs as well!

Retail for a full option one here is about €1600.

There's an autumn sale on Herman Miller here as well, takes off €200 on most models.

Unfortunately HM does not make the Eames lounge for the EU market, Vitra does that and they have no sale right now. Might have a look at used ones as the one I want costs 8 grand...
