Jaeger Le Coultre Atmos Clock

Anyone here into clocks? I recently learned about the Atmos clock from JLC and became fascinated with the movement powering it. Essentially its powered by temperature changes in the room via a bellows filled with gas. 1 degree (centigrade) of temperature change will power the movement for up to 48 hours!

Happened to be searching eBay and found one locally that the original owner got back in 1978 as an employee award and it sat for decades unused in his house. This one works perfectly and looks incredible with its 24k gold plated case.

I'm hooked, and want one for my office now!

I have two. They are great. Buying used is fine but be aware that if/when the bellows needs to be replaced it is expensive. There are, however, people that do that quite effectively by soldering and recharging the old bellows.

Received mine from my mom a few years back, freshly serviced. It was purchased with H&S Trading Stamps in 1966 and was on their mantel for over 40 years.

I really like your first one with the Romans and moon phase. Where did you get this one?

Apparently atmos clock movements are a thing, like automatic watch movements, so there are multiple manufacturers of these fine time pieces including American, Swiss, and German clock makers.

these are SO COOL. I badly want one. it seems like not the most ideal time for buying such a large, fragile object at the moment given I’m living in an nyc apartment with a newborn (and a klutzy wife ); but will definitely happen at some point.

I have a soft spot for Le Coultre clocks especially the Pendulette models, but Atmos too.

FYI, If looking for an Atmos clock I frequently see them for sale on the Goodwill auction site shopgoodwill.com (no joke) Here's one currently:
