Nautilus Test Drive

Buddy let me test drive this for the evening. Wish my AD would call to offer me a non-croc Nautilus...

He’s test driving my AP ROC which is a scratch magnet, so it’s all good.

Not much chance of your phone ringing, the SS model you’ve borrowed was discontinued 5 years ago – unless you’re talking pre-owned or the RG 5980 instead.

I assume you’ll get one soon enough. Glad you got to try on the watch. The 5711/12 is lighter tho just for context. Also you will have to decide whether u like the thinner Nauru’s or the bigger ones.

I’ll be happy with any Nautilus on a bracelet. Will buy the first one I’m offered... that’s on a bracelet.

I think I prefer the thinner 5711/12, but this thicker Nautilus has serious wrist presence.

It does have presence.. but the beauty of the nautilus for me is the original proportions.

I feel that once you are looking for presence in a watch, the AP offshore, Rolex PM or RM should fill that spot. Just my personal view.

But. As others have said and you rightly have figured. The bracelet is one of the most beautiful things...

Some people have suggested the AP bracelet is better and I disagree... it’s down right industrial.

There’s about 10 people here. No one is a WIS except the two of us and a poll of the crowd was taken. My rose gold Royal Oak Chrono or my buddy’s Nautilus. Everyone here....who has no idea about watches...chose my AP. Was pretty surprised as I hold this Nautilus in high regard, but the gold does bling and attract serious attention for sure. I offered him a 1:1 Trade for mine on the full bracelet after the poll and my buddy declined :).

Ja, I'm with you on this. I prefer the Nautilus bracelet to the AP's. To me, it's the prettier of the 2.

I see. Thought it was the 5980 you were specifically referencing.
There may still be a white dial SS one that I know of – I’ll find out for sure.

I would have declined the 1:1 swap too. The steel nautilus is badass. I prefer the blue over the black, but either of those 5980/1A would make me do a victory dance.

If you put up a 5980/1R with your AP ROC with full bracelet; that would be a more fair comparison from the crowd. Price wise theyre in two worlds, but both being RG and on bracelet.

I feel the 5980/1A has wrist presence and the weight doesn't make you chop your wrist off. Unlike the 1R it's light and comfortable over a long period of time.

In terms of scratches...AP's RG is a lot more robust than Patek's fragile RG. Christ, you get hairline scratches on your bezel of a 1R by just running a shirt over here.

that is a clear decline. no competition. the AP shines on first glance from the outside but that is it. let us wait until they come up with a fully in-house chronological movement.
