Not really sure how they are comparable at all.
First: Have you driven both?

is this a VS thread or an OR thread? because; there's a difference if you have to live with either one.
for me, LC all the way! my partner had a lexus LX470 (cousin of the LC) for a while and it was a tank in a tux. i had 7 bmw's and i'm done with them. |

The Toyota is part truck and is built for camping, beaches, trail running, and dune bashing. It handles like it's part truck (as an SUV should IMO). You can fit a lot of gear in it and still get it deep into whatever back country you like.

Those two are worlds apart. I'd go for the Land Cruiser or the Lexus equivalent because I'm ready for something that spacious that is built like a tank. My father has a Prado with 400k kilometers with zero hiccups. I wish they had the Toyota Fortuner Diesel here in the States.

Land cruiser will always have great resale value and a loyal following.

Land cruiser hands down. But to keep it 100% honest, I would opt for the redesigned lx570 which is a land cruiser that boasts a more luxurious cabin and more tastefully designed exterior. I just picked up a 4Runner and if I had the 100k to burn this year, I would have gone lx. Was originally planning to go gx (american prado with some luxury) but I have a soft spot for 4runners. Should be good fun.

As above very different vehicles, I would start by asking what your intended use and need is. If you don't have a lot of kids or stuff and hang out in a city then the X6 or X5 would be a good choice, if you need to tow a lot, have a farm then a diesel land cruiser is a great choice and holds value well.
Also I would consider a diesel Range rover, it has the style of the X6 with the functional efficiency off road of a Toyota.........

Money is not a factor and i don't have any kids. I drive a Lexus IS350 so I'm biased to a Toyota/Lexus. I like the exterior of the X6. The interior looks way too plain for my taste though.

One is a BMW and the other is a Toyota.
One has cache', the other doesn't.. Hmmmm Should you get an Audi Q7 or a Jeep..

X6 and Land Cruiser are around the same price. My analogy would be Daytona and SD4000

The attributes of a good off road SUV are quite different than the attributes of a good urban SUV. Most of the car guys seem to like the European SUVs (BMW, Audi, etc.). But, those are rarely seen out in the wilderness where the off road guys take their SUVs (Land Cruiser, Patrol, Cherokee, etc.). |

If you want to go off road then the landcruiser without a doubt.
If you want a large car for transport then get a BMW wagon. All the benefits of an X6 but wont handle like poop. |

Sadly the Land Crusier is no longer the great SUV it once was.
The general public still buys it thinking it's the once great off roader. It's not. See Road and Track. The Lexus 570 is even cheaper. |

Regarding the road and track article, what a load of crap! He drove down a logging road with stock street tires. What did he expect? Doesn't matter what you are in if you have some BS highway rubber. I do agree toyota would be well served by feeding their SUVs aluminum ala RR. If you buy a lx or LC over a full size RR you are obviously beating the reliability drum and thinking long term. Nobody thinks they are better right out of the box. |

This is a strange thread, how do you begin to compare these two? Two completely different vehicles that are polar opposites.

The point is there's just not many true off roaders left.
IMHO short list LR 4 Jeep G Wagon That's about it. |

You can drive the Land Cruiser till it has 200k miles and 15 years old and repairs will be fairly inexpensive and it will have amazing resale value. Your BMW most likely will be done by the time its close to 100k. Keeping it after that doesnt make sense because the costs to keep it running will be way more than the car itself. Now if you are leasing and in either case the car will be gone in 3 years then it doesnt matter. I like it how the Land Cruiser is more exclusive while everyone and their grandmother here in south florida drive an X5 or X3. Land Cruiser imo.
