It really depends of the AD. Some are good other less but they all sell lots of watches.
It seems they are now accepting to order DJ according to customer wish. Just did it last Saturday for my wife, a 31mm domed mint green oyster bracelet

I hear you OP! Rolex shopping isn't much fun anymore. It's downright drudgery. We no longer celebrate an achievement when buying a Rolex - fighting your way through the mythical 'waiting list' IS the achievement! I want no part of it either.

I've wanted to fully quit it too but like a moth to a flame... here I am!

I totally understand. I have a reasonable spend history or at least I would have hoped enough to get me a DJ41 or GMT this year but alas, nothing so far. There are some very appealing older models available just now but I will persevere with my AD for now.

I have not had this guy’s experience. My AD got me my first request, during the OP madness, then asked me to let him know when I’m ready for my Datejust, and he will get it for me. Yes, I know his first name, and he knows mine. Nothing wrong with that….Mind you, I haven’t asked for a GMT or a Daytona, but even lesser models are still hard to get.

Congratulations, there is a universe of excellent watches that can be had without having to kiss some AD's butt.

No disrespect, but I’m not sure that a 31mm DJ is indicative of anything. Pleased for your wife, though.

I have been on a list for 17 months for a stainless Yacht-Master. I bought one in the aftermarket recently and paid a ~10% premium to MSRP plus tax.

The treatment my wife and I get at Cartier is so much more professional. Our last two purchases are Cartier. There is a reason Cartier is now number two.

Rolex does not manage its inventory at the corporate level so there is no telling what AD's gets what and where you are in line. Then my AD got fired by Rolex two years ago and that AD did not support flippers. The whole thing has turned me off after being a thirty-eight year client. I have a 228238, 116718 and 126622, and have what I want.

It is hard to be a "good customer" when your sales agents turn over and the

relationships you spent time building are not cared about or passed on by MGT.

It is hard to be a "good customer" when your store is so stuffy and the staff so snooty.

It is hard to be a good "good customer" when you have to beg to spend your hard earned money.

So to Rolex it was fun for a while but now I must bid you adieu
That doesn't even rhyme.

My favorite Rolex references are all discontinued. You're not missing much, IMO.

Yes, the whole thing is kind of annoying. I know people say 'my AD is great, what's the problem?', but if you're in a major city it's a nightmare as insane demand seems to be never ending!

I'm in London and watches of switzerland group run the show. In general, they are not very helpful and quite impersonal/corporate in their behaviour. I have purchased other stuff from them and they won't even sell me a 36mm datejust...maybe I'm just not very likeable

Good luck everyone!

It's all totally AD dependent. My first year with my AD and I have a Submariner and a GMT BLNR. I am 'on the list' for a Daytona. I'll buy an OP next year.

I went to my local AD and although they were very polite, they didn't want to sell me a Rolex, only a Tudor.

Things are changing and I think arrogant SOB ADs are going to be acting differently in a year or two.

Also, an option for both non-AD, and non-gray experience......buy the watch you want in parts, and assemble yourself, and or have a watchmaker build it for you.

As mentioned and already photo'd on this blog, I purchased all the parts for a SEA Dweller, and then built it myself.

Took 11 months to source the parts from around the world. 1 month to build.

Even got the JC dial.

$9800, TOTAL !

(Get extra stems. For me, that was the toughest part of the build :)).....)

I went straight to a grey for my two-tone rose gold GMT master 2. Paid just under MSRP. Was an incomplete set though.

Original owner misplaced the Warranty card. Though RSC informed me that the warranty was dated March 2019 when I sent it in for a warranty service.

There’s nothing wrong with wanting to establish rapport etc with an AD to improve your chances of getting the Rolex that you want.

My experiences with the ADs I’ve visited have differed greatly. All of them had nothing for sale except ladies DJs, some had excellent customer service whilst others wouldn’t even give me the time of day.

That being said, I value my time far more than sitting around chatting with a salesperson. So going grey was the right choice for me. Got the watch I wanted and I could enjoy it right away.

I prefer 5 digit references and 6 digit references that don't stray too far from the earlier models. My current Rolex collection consists of the 14060, 16710, 116520 and 118239.
I am also a fan of the 16600, 16610LV, 16570 and 114270.

Having owned 4, 5 and 6 digit references, the 5 digits are by far my favourite. Imo they represent the best era for Rolex. Timeless, classic design… just the right proportionality, and, not as much of the “bling bling” that the new references seem to emanate.

Long live 5 digits!!! :D

Fully understand where you are coming from. It can get tiring. Doesn’t hurt to walk in and chat from time to time and if something comes from it, good.
