Agree with some others. Get the Rolex and then evaluate.

We watch nerds tend to overstate the value of a dress watch in a hypothetical collection. Truth be told, there is almost no situation where the GMT would be out of place. Once you have your daily nailed down, you can see if you want to go more formal or more exclusive for a second piece.

I have the GMT-Master II BLNR and Reverso in my collection. The BLNR is such a handsome versatile comfortable and useful watch — I wear it all the time. The Reverso is a classic and you shouldn’t be afraid to wear it casually too. If it were me based on what I’ve learned and experienced, I would buy a GMT-Master II (if you can find one!) and see what direction you want to go next with a Reverso, or perhaps another Rolex or PP Calatrava.

I'd always choose one watch over two, although only if you're the kinda of guy who will wear that one watch doing everything. If you'll be afraid to beat up the AP a little bit, I'd get a Rolex, which is made to take some abuse.

I’d rather have a watch now than wait for a long time for a RO. And it’s good advice to walk (not run) and enjoy the journey of building a collection over time as I get more knowledgeable and my tastes evolve. So I think GMT as a starting point makes a ton of sense. From there I can see if there’s still a clear void in my collection and can reassess from there (RO, DJ, Reverso, etc).

Thanks again friends!

Good plan

GMT and a dress watch would work.

A little about my situation. Budget is $20k.

My thinking is either AP RO 15400 (full budget on 1 amazing daily wearer) ...

I love to RO and think it’s perfect. Heart is set on blue dial and it will take a while to get from Boutique. Not willing to pay premium for gray market. What do you guys think makes sense? What other factors should I be considering to make a decision? What would you do?

Thanks so much!

I really thought there was a budget in place and not somewhere out in the future. Sound like no real budget to me. If that's the case than get what you can afford.
