Got lucky

Hi

I’m new to the forum but have been a regular browser for a few months now.

Really great forum and very informative.

On Monday I made my very first Rolex purchase with no previous buying history with the AD or Rolex.

Was in my local city centre and my AD had a beautiful gold Daytona in the window on OF. Went in and asked if I could have a look. Absolutely stunning and heavy!

I asked the assistant if they had any SS sports models I could look at just to compare the weight. The assistant return with a brand new date Sub.

Watch was also stunning and heavier than previous sub model. I asked what the current wait time was for the sub. The assistant to my surprise informed me the Sub was avaialable as he had rang a few customers but no one wanted it.

To cut a long story short I bought my first Rolex.

Really happy and I am hooked.

I got speaking to the manager and they explained a lot of customers express interest but a lot don’t follow through with the purchase.

Thanks for taking the time to read and I will post pics soon

Kind regards
Brian

Congratulations! I get laughed at when I ask for SS sports models while I'm traveling.

Thanks everyone.

I agree I was very lucky both in obtaining one immediately with no previous history and just ahead of the price rise.

Well done and right place right time.

It is true that many join lists full of bravado. However when it comes to getting the credit card out, many back out for hundreds of reasons :

Too close to Christmas (before of after), new kitchen, home improvements, kids birthdays, spouse won’t let them lol, too close to a holiday etc.

If you’re a genuine buyer and have a credit card ready and available you could get lucky.

Congrats, but if an AD has phoned a few people why not just put it in the window then if they are just going to straight sell it to a newbie?

Because most ADs don’t want to sell steel sports pieces to Tourists who get the VAT refunds then disappear off home. Most ADs I deal with have told me that.

They could probably qualify him to a degree, and see he was genuinely keen, and local.

Either that or it just hadn’t hit the window yet.

Nice work OP! Out of interest would you have been tempted to get the gold watch on the Oyterflex (OF), budget permitting? I have only ever seen one of them sitting in a window in a UK dealer, it was the white gold version. I tried it on and thought as I have not (yet) purchased a gold watch, being white gold it might be too subtle. I think the yellow gold version is a bit more 'wow'. I have tried the YG version on since and was very tempted, but could not decide if OF was for me or not.

Thanks everyone for all the kind comments.

Trying to upload photos but the size of my pics are too big?

Think they may have sold it to me as I wasn’t pushy and thanks to what I have read and learnt off this forum I came across slightly knowledgable.

I believe they sold it to me because I was genuinely interested in seeing one and I wasn’t pushy. Also think it helped that I had a little knowledge which I have picked up over recent months from this excellent forum

Hi

The gold Daytona had the black dial (wasp style). It was stunning but if it was me I would want the White Gold version, partly for the dial and its more restrained.

I had a nice discussion with the assistant about both versions and the assistant preferred the gold. Think this helped enable me to be offered the sub.

At the same time a big buyer was in store who was wearing the Gold Daytona on OF with the gold dial. We all got chatting and he explained he bought the Gold as he already had the 2 steel Daytona C’s so the Gold was more different.

If I c
