Rolex Suggestion

When it comes to watches, I am a bit of a variety is the spice of life type of person. I have a Tag Monaco, Breitling Navitimer, and an Omega Seasmaster blue wave dial. If you look at my previous posts, I have been wanting an Air King, which hasn’t happened, but I did end up with a new Submariner. When I bought my Seamaster, I tried on the Moonwatch and loved it, but did not want to buy another SS black dial watch since I had a Submariner and was still pursuing an Air King. I have been told my my Omega boutique that the rumors of a white dial moonwatch are true and they will be rolling out soon. I plan to get one since I do not have a white dial watch and a moonwatch is a great watch to own.

Which leads me back to the Air King. I like that it’s a quirky watch with a long history. I recently stopped into see my AD to ask about the Air King (we are just not getting many of those, he says). He had an everose Sky Dweller and a day/datejust. I am a big guy and tried on the Sky D, but man it was a heavy watch and I didn’t love it (esp at $50K). I did like the everose a lot, though.

I feel like the Air King and Submariner overlap a bit too much in style, but I want another Rolex. I only plan to get one more Rolex, and would like something a bit unusual. Do I continue pursuing an Air King, I mean it has to happen this year, or does anyone know if something like the Root Beer is a long wait (I think a GMT is a long wait no matter which version, but I assume the Root Beer is easier than Pepsi and Batman). I thought a Sky D might have been the watch for me, like the cheaper SS one, but I just didn’t like busy dial and heaviness to the watch. Just open to suggestions. Every time someone gets an Air King and posts it here, I do think it is a wonderful watch.

I would consider adding a little color if you're open to it. The Rootbeer will be substantially easier to get then the Pepsi and Batman. Other watches that come to mind are the YM 40, DSSD JC, Exp II, and maybe a DJ 41 if you want something dressier? If the AK still sings to you, then keep the pursuit going.

P.S. I'm also looking to get the same white dialed incoming Speedy as my first Omega Speedmaster. Good luck to us!

If you love the AirKing get an AirKing. Sounds like you’ve wanted one for years so anything else will likely fall short. It’s not that close to a Sub. If it’s the black dial that you want to avoid though, maybe an Explorer II in white? It’s such a cool watch with the orange hand.

If it’s an AirKing you want, then wait it out. Have you tried one on? That’s necessary, a real life, in person, on the wrist feel. I too like Omega, they have a number of great models, well made and visually appealing. And you can walk in to most AD’s or boutiques and buy the one you want.

Just wait and watch, and sample all that’s out there.

Probably just save yourself time and skip the Rolex. Move onto whatever you wanted next year. You can decide later, air kings are not going to be changing any time soon.

The Polar Explorer II would be the one. It has a 42mm case, white dial, orange GMT hand and sits flat to the wrist and is a pleasure to wear. I have tried to like the Air King but the dial is just too much for me and it wears small on my 7.5-7.75 inch wrist. The white Speedy is cool and I will check it out upon release. It will be difficult to get for a while but eventually it will show up in the secondary market for a fair price.
