Started decanting this one to have with our friends before dinner tonight at Bacchanalia - one of our favorite restaurants in Atlanta.

Will need a SOLID 8 hrs to really open up.

8 hours? Ive never let any wine decant for more than an hour or two. Even a young 100% tannat only needed about 2 hours and it is one of the darkest, sharpest, most tannic reds ive ever had.

13s are still so ‘green’ if you’re going to even attempt to drink any now — they need to open up for quite some time.

I have some old Bordeaux’s I decant over night.

Didn’t decant this one - just opened the bottle about an hour and a half-ish before dinner and it was perfect.

Did you leave it alone to 'breath' ..or have it on the warm stove (while dinner was in the works).. to assist in the breathing. -
I remember my father in law often kept a bottle on the warm stove top to assist in the 'breathing'. - Does that help at all.. or just a 'thing' he preferred to do..?!?

Awesome Roger
Amazing how different peeps open their wine, I’ve had that bottle and did a 2 hour decant, then did a tasting after that and it was ready to go

And that Harlan must’ve been killer. Such a good vintage, but wow, what a winery to top it off

Most excellent Larry, Taylor 20 year old Tawny is sooo good, although 1-2 3oz glasses is all I can do. It’s a special taste after dinner.

We had this this week in Rio de Janeiro, right before dinner, different in this country on how it’s served
I don’t get to read the fine print it but it must’ve been 10 liter bottle, at least

thanks my friend - I only decanted that one like that since the 13s (in my experiences) have needed quite some time to open up - but also really depends on what stages your palate likes as well!

The Harlan was out of the box good - still very vibrant and full of life!!

Cheers my friend!!

Having this with some ribeye and filet mignon tonight. It’s been a hectic week so time to unwind. It tastes pretty good straight out the bottle. I’m sure it will get better after a little decant. Enjoy the weekend TRF!

Hope you can help, have been searching for info on Red Champagne namely Bérêche et Fils Coteaux Champenois. Have searched for a while through various fine wine auctions and the like as most retailers have no stock, apparently it does not keep very well, but this year looks good for the Bollinger production.

Didn't take a picture of the non-vintage Krug but that's how the evening started, I forgot how good and consistent the non-vintage is. My last few bottles have all been vintage but I clearly need to stock up on some NV!!

The Dunn was a sleeper cause it's from a solid vintage but it was the Napa release not Howell Mountain.

but the champ was the Shafer, the couple we were with was a bit shell shocked at the price so it was my treat and clearly the winner.
