Aquanaut 5167A-001 service/repair

I have a Patek Philippe Aquanaut 5167A-001 which I bought new from my AD 4 years old. The watch has been stored mostly and has had very little use (less than 3 months in 4 years). I got it out of storage a few weeks ago for the summer and it was working fine. A week ago, it stopped running over night. I wound it, but the auto-winding did not seem to keep the watch working. Yesterday I tried winding with the crown 60 turns to ensure a full wind). It ran a few minutes, but stopped again, I guess it will need to be returned to Patek Philippe for repair/servicing.

I understand external finishing, dial, crystal, hands are extra if replaced, but the watch is mint so will not need that. Does the service cost include replacing the broken movement parts to get the movement working again or is that extra as well?

You should call the London Salon and ask. Or if you are near there, probably best to drop it off there for servicing.

2 year warranty for such an expensive piece seems ridiculous and not even transferable. Heard horror stories from my local dealer about service wait times. Good luck.

To the OP.....

Most likely it need to be service...

If nothing is major, parts is included doing service...

If it a major parts of the movement that is broken, then you have to pay for that parts....

Yup. I do wish the warranty was a bit longer but 4 years isn't bad for a service.....

Four seems short., daily beater Rolex is every 10. Did OP really only wear his Patek for four months in four years? Patek should easily cover repair under warranty. What are service times, 2 to 3 months?

It was probably much less really, I take my watches off when I am at home, the first 2 years it was only worn in June, July and August one day at the weekend, for around 4 hours only if it was T-shirt weather (rare in UK). The 3 year it was in the bank, this year maybe 5 times but it also broke then. If you assume a full wind each time it would be 29 days @ 46 hour power reserve = 1334 hours (55.5 days). I wish I wore it every day now as it would have broken in warranty, but I tend to rotate often.

I think the issue was caused through lack of use/storage and the oils were not moved around enough. Although I have a 20 year old seamaster never serviced, a 1968 Bolova Astronaut and Space View still going strong (great USA engineering)

I guess it is just bad luck, the AD has confirmed £930 and service includes movement parts, but no external parts finishing. It will take around 8 weeks. Much less than I was expecting £250 a year, but I will be wearing it a lot more at least while it under warranty.

I get both sides of this argument but I wouldn't make a big fuss about it if it were me. I would likely point out that its only been 4 years and surprised it had an issue. If they took care of it, great. If not, 1k every 4 years would be ok with me.

Lack of use, as here, can lead to prematurely dried up oils which have migrated to from form micro snags in the movement. Always best to run the movement at least twice a month for 24 hours or so. I bought a sealed PP grand complication four years old and it had issues, out of the seal, requiring a full overhaul service.

Local dealers here in dc metro always give much longer times than 16 weeks. You are lucky .

$1200 US $ equivalent is not so bad for full service but ridiculous it requires full service so soon .
