My 2018 Trackhawk has recently started to feel like it’s floating and wandering, it’s especially bad above 80mph and beyond. Happens under throttle as well as when coasting, but it’s the worst immediately after lifting off heavy throttle at speed (pulling from low speed up to 80mph+ then lifting off). In sweeping corners it feels like it’s fighting against itself. Almost feels like the body is loose and “wobbly” on top of the drivetrain.

Alignment checked out dead on perfect, double checked wheel balance no issues there. Tires are new and inflated evenly. The master technician at the Jeep dealership seems stumped. They are replacing both front control arms this week to see if that helps (under warranty so no cost to me), but just wondering if any of you fellow gear heads have any thoughts or input. Kind of feels like they are just throwing parts at it since they don’t really know what’s causing it.

Thanks in advance!

Sounds like bad shocks to me.

The suspension is comprised of a linkage, springs and dampers.
The linkage and springs seem to hold up a lot longer than dampers do.

When I was in college I had VW Jetta that had two bad rear shocks. It gave that uneasy feeling of floating.

I was thinking that no Jeep was made to go 80 mph!

Lol thought did cross my mind. Problem is these are discontinued so there is nothing I’d really want to trade it for at the moment except another Trackhawk. I bought this one right before interest rates went up so if I were to trade I’d almost be doubling the interest rate in the current market which is less than ideal. Hoping they can get it sorted!

This is where physics comes home to roost for a 5,400 lb. sledgehammer.
Thanks for the info! They did mention the bushings possibly being the culprit but wanted to rule out control arm issues first so that’s what we’re starting with apparently. And you’re 100% right. Just because you stuff enough power under the hood of a big SUV to make it accelerate like a race car doesn’t mean it’ll just magically handle like one!

Thanks for the input! Crazy thing is it’s only at 16k miles, but I guess when it’s 16k miles of “drive it like you stole it” anything is possible lol.

Lol that’s what I love about it. It’s super unassuming to people who don’t know what it is til you hammer down and disappear. Have surprised many a C7 owner from a dig off a stop light

The C8 however can still beat me handily off the line if being driven by someone with half a clue.

Love this idea. I say go for it. 9k RPM with the roof down sounds like a dream.

Like it but love the 4RS. Would be no chance I’d move off that pot for the spyder. I think your logic is sound though and if the gt3 was too harsh maybe the softer setup on the spyder would fit your needs better.

I would definitely do it.

I have the regular Spyder and that’s pretty good already. Can’t imagine a GT3 motor with intake a few inches from your ear.

The RS top seemed a bit fussy though.

Worse case scenario if you don’t like it, you can always trade it in for something else.

For me personally….for that type of car, I’m staying with a coupe or targa. I look at buying a convertible more for enjoying the slower ride vs a “track like” experience. YMMV. No wrong choice, both are fantastic!

The 4RS is fantastic. I drove one a few months ago and loved it. The short ratio PDK made it so easy to enjoy the soundtrack of the engine. Much more so than my GT3.

I doubt the SRS is *that* much softer than the 4RS. It might just be a bit softer to account for the lower downforce. But any little bit helps given the crap roads we have in the NE. I'm really looking forward to the journalist opinions in July.

Glad you love your Spyder ... Such a great car! The RS top is definitely a bit of an annoyance. For a weekend/fair weather toy I'm not sure if it'll be that bad. As a daily or a car that would get much more seat time, I could see it getting frustrating.

I definitely understand where you're coming from! I really loved the engine in my GT3 ... The Spyder RS and the likely future 992 Speedster will be the only 2 ways to get that engine without a roof. It's a tough call!

Don’t do it! You will miss the raw sound of both your cars. My close friend has a GT2 RS and though it is impressive performance, it’s a no go for the thrill and excitement department

Yeah I think you're right. I saw a brewster green GT2 RS for sale which is my second favorite Porsche color after mexico blue which is what piqued my interest but I totally agree.

I left the truck in "as in" condition but totally rebuilt the motor and brake systems! It's a 1979 Ford F250, w/ a 4.9 300cu. inline 6. One of the best Ford motors ever build! My son said I should throw a bale of hay in the bed so it blows out on those behind!

Saw this on the freeway going 90 mph on way up to Mammoth. I thought it was pretty cool. The driver had headphones on...

THIS is perfect. I have an irrational love of 8 lug (non half ton) pickups and straight 6 engines. Full floating rear axles and I-beam fronts. I seriously do. My watched items list on Bringatrailer.com is loaded with exactly this. If you feel like posting more pics and descriptions I'll be your target audience.

Just following up….
The process slowed a little by weather, subs being shuffled around, etc….
Cars being shuffled, traded, sold etc…over the last couple months due to impending divorce.
Those of you who have been through it (DIVORCE)….You know what I mean about having to shuffle some things, trade some things, make things agreeable/peaceful, etc.…
I’m good with what I’ve got!
It’s almost finished… Just some little tweaks here and there, some artwork to be hung, etc.…
