Icon9 The passing of a dog…

RIP Mike Tyson Booth
(11/27/2013-5/23/23)
What do you say about a creature that you birthed into your hands and then held his head while he passed. Family! Most of you may not know but Tyson was my work dog (more than a work dog, my daily companion). Waking up this morning and him not there to greet me is rough. He was the best dog I could’ve ever asked for, every day he would get up with me and go to work, wander the job sites never string more than sight distance from me; watching the guys and making sure everybody was safe! He would live practically in the back of my truck, every week on material runs through the desert getting him In-N-Out burgers. That backseat truly was his happiest place on earth and while he was there mine too.
I spend more time with this dog for the past 10 years I have with anybody on earth. We unfortunately found out on Monday that he had terminal bladder cancer, the doctor was able to make him comfortable enough to come spend the day with me. I am beyond heartbroken, gutted, destroyed. 3464 days is never enough. I miss you so much.
Thanks for listening he was such an amazing dog that I wanted to share.

I’m really sorry to hear this, truly I am. Your story actually made me teary. I can’t imagine what you are going through.

Those who know, know. These beautiful, loving creatures are indeed family. They are the most predictable, loyal, and funny companions. Truly best friends in every sense of the words.

I hope you find peace knowing he’s not suffering any longer.

I'm sorry for your loss, friend. Our little Bichon named Flurry is 14 years old and was diagnosed with bladder cancer around 6 months ago. He's still chugging along with intermittent blood in his urine, but otherwise his normal self. It's going to be very hard for us to say goodbye when the time comes, but we are grateful for the amount of time we've had with him since his diagnosis. Sounds like Mike Tyson lived a long and happy life!

I don’t think any of my words will comfort you at this moment but please take comfort in knowing you have Tyson a great life and lots of love.

Having to make the decision to alleviate our best friends pain knowing it will hurt our hearts forever is one of the most selfless acts.

RIP Tyson!!

P.s. please share some pics of him if you feel comfortable.

I’m am so sorry to hear of your loss, but it does sound like you and Tyson both gave each other a joyous and loving decade of companionship. Nothing replaces the loss of a loved one and I am saddened for you OP. I am glad he’s not in pain anymore but so so sorry for his passing.

My heartfelt condolences on your loss, OP. I've had four golden retrievers over the past forty years, and losing them is always heartbreaking. In time, you will remember the great times you shared, and will smile; you'll always have those memories. My advice based on my own experience is to not wait too long to bring a new faithful companion into your life.

Lord Byron – Memorial to Boatswain

Near this Spot
are deposited the Remains of one
who possessed Beauty without Vanity,
Strength without Insolence,
Courage without Ferocity,
and all the virtues of Man without his Vices.

This praise, which would be unmeaning Flattery
if inscribed over human Ashes,
is but a just tribute to the Memory of
BOATSWAIN, a DOG,
who was born in Newfoundland May 1803
and died at Newstead Nov. 18, 1808.

When some proud Son of Man returns to Earth,
Unknown to Glory, but upheld by Birth,
The sculptor’s art exhausts the pomp of woe,
And storied urns record who rests below.
When all is done, upon the Tomb is seen,
Not what he was, but what he should have been.
But the poor Dog, in life the firmest friend,
The first to welcome, foremost to defend,
Whose honest heart is still his Master’s own,
Who labours, fights, lives, breathes for him alone,
Unhonoured falls, unnoticed all his worth,
Denied in heaven the Soul he held on earth –
While man, vain insect! hopes to be forgiven,
And claims himself a sole exclusive heaven.

Oh man! thou feeble tenant of an hour,
Debased by slavery, or corrupt by power –
Who knows thee well must quit thee with disgust,
Degraded mass of animated dust!
Thy love is lust, thy friendship all a cheat,
Thy tongue hypocrisy, thy heart deceit!
By nature vile, ennobled but by name,
Each kindred brute might bid thee blush for shame.
Ye, who behold perchance this simple urn,
Pass on – it honours none you wish to mourn.
To mark a friend’s remains these stones arise;
I never knew but one -- and here he lies.

So sorry to hear of your loss. I understand the heartache one feels when a member of their family has ascended to Heaven. The one thing that lifts my heart is knowing one day when I enter the gates of Heaven all my furry family members will be there to greet me.
Cherish the memories for you and Tyson will be together again.

I’m so sorry. Hubby and I have said goodby to 7 dogs and 2 cats in the 39 years we’ve been married. After the last cat I said “no more.” A part of me died with every one of them and I can’t do it anymore. I miss every one of them very much.

I’m very sorry for your loss. Saying goodbye is the hardest part of having a dog, or probably any pet.
I saw this quote some years ago and always liked it:

Heartbreaking.
I lost a dog to bladder cancer once. It was so fast, I felt robbed.
Tyson must have been the luckiest dog ever. He lived every day doing what every dog wants most. Spending all day every day, side by side with his best friend and caregiver.
I'm so sorry his journey with you ended for now. Find comfort in the knowledge that you'll see him again one day.

A Dog's Prayer
Treat me kindly, my beloved master, for no heart in all the world is more grateful for kindness than the loving heart of me.
Do not break my spirit with a stick, for though I should lick your hand between the blows, your patience and understanding will more quickly teach me the things you would have me do.
Speak to me often, for your voice is the world's sweetest music, as you must know by the fierce wagging of my tail when your footstep falls upon my waiting ear.
When it is cold and wet, please take me inside... for I am now a domesticated animal, no longer used to bitter elements... and I ask no greater glory than the privilege of sitting at your feet beside the hearth... though had you no home, I would rather follow you through ice and snow than rest upon the softest pillow in the warmest home in all the land... for you are my god... and I am your devoted worshiper.
Keep my pan filled with fresh water, for although I should not reproach you were it dry, I cannot tell you when I suffer thirst. Feed me clean food, that I may stay well, to romp and play and do your bidding, to walk by your side, and stand ready, willing and able to protect you with my life, should your life be in danger.
And, beloved master, should the Great Master see fit to deprive me of my health or sight, do not turn me away from you. Rather hold me gently in your arms as skilled hands grant me the merciful boon of eternal rest...and I will leave you knowing with the last breath I drew, my fate was ever safest in your hands.

I saw the title earlier and didn't read it because I knew it would make me sad. So I read it now, and it did. I'm so sorry and fully know the pain of losing a dog you love. It time, their memory will bring a smile and not tears, but that can take a while. Sounds like you had a great one.

I also had a dog that accompanied me to work every day. She was my patrol dog for eight years of my 20 years as a police officer. After her retirement she became the ranch dog and had a wonderful retirement. She even had a goat as a roommate for a little while.

She developed cancer and we started treating it aggressively. She had a favorite spot on the lawn where she could see two sides of the house, (always protecting). I went out to check on her and found she'd had a stroke. She was still alive, but unresponsive, so it was time.

I almost managed to get through typing this without crying, but it didn't happen. It is the rare day that when I speak of her, I don't well up.

What I can say is, you gave that pup the best life. It's going to be tough for a while, but smiles will eventually come to your face when you think of him. I don't know if dogs go to heaven, but if they don't, when I die, I want to go where they are. God Bless.

Sorry for your loss mate - truly our dogs are family.

If we all aspired to be more like our four legged companions - there would be an awful lot less grief in this world …
