Good eye. No effort to visually integrate mesh bracelet with the case.

GR 2 titanium is unusable. Even the caseback threads will get stuck over time. I wonder if they even know? |

Love the bracelet, but I am not sold on the titanium, faux patina, and price.

Omega seems somewhat lost in all the LEs and tie-ins. I love their product when it’s not a gimmick.

Sure some seem like a gimmick, the Bond LE could be described as such. This one doesn't look like a gimmick, neither do the a lot of Olympic and Space celebration models.

Thought:
Could Omega use this Bond watch to test the waters into Rolex pricing territory? The watch has the vintage Bond Rolex feel, and it's priced at a Submariners level. Given the Rolex SS sports shortage, Omega could be trying this as an experiment. To lure Rolex customers to Omega given how hard it is to buy a Rolex. Your thoughts?

IMHO yes, it seems OMEGA is bringing their prices up (mission creep) to 'raise all boats'. Of course we need to remember that currencies are devaluating and so costs to produce and service are going up. With negative interest rates mentioned by the ECB today, it makes currency worth less (Japanification). At some point a manufacturer needs to 'test the waters' on what consumers are willing to pay. Perhaps OMEGA overshot the target with these $10k 'Submariner' limited edition timepieces?

Agree. I’ve always said Omega benefits the most from Rolex’s inability to meet demand. Once particularly new buyers realize how much quality and variety you get from omega, and how easy they are to acquire at an expansive price point, there may be a whole generation just not enamored with Rolex.

I really like it, can’t wait to see it in person. Price is quite steep tho.

the trouble with playing the 'Veblen' card with Omega and Rolex is that these are middle class 'luxury items'... and the middle class doesn't just buy because it's expensive (that's an 'upper class' thing - see: Richard Mille).. Middle class consumers need some justification - for example : Utility - "I can track Time zones!", "I can use it to dive!" or Legacy - "This is something I can leave to my grandchildren!" - or value Proposition "So much watch for the price compared to [Rolex/AP] plus longer warranty, and antimagnetic!!"... or for 'investment' - This is selling on chronos24/the forums for more than what I'm paying for it!' So, just making this watch more expensive won't make it desirable for the thinking consumer - which is the market for Omega and Rolex... the Gluttonous, extravagant consumer who just wants the most expensive wine on the list even if it tastes like shit is a different consumer for a different market - (see: Richard Mille)

The PO in titanium is far less than the bond, and it has a higher end movement (date and jumping hour) and considerably more metal.
It really is an inflated price. |

I like it — but agree with the masses—- it’s overpriced. $5k-$6k range — the Seamaster isa contender. At $9k — too many other options for that kind of $$$

Design is awesome, but $9k and it has an aluminum bezel? That seems a little lame for the price.

I do love what they are trying to do with this watch, I really do.
However, I had the opportunity to get on the waiting list quiet early (for full price deposit, lol), and decided to pass. For me, it is several things that I just don't like: 1). Grade 2 Titanium. I just don't get why here. Grade 5 at a minimum, and they are still making a tidy profit at the current price point. I dare say they would have charged more with Grade 5, and I would still be much more keen on buying it. 2). Bezel and dial. Just don't pop to me at all. I don't mind the faux patina, not at all. I just am blown away on the aluminum use at this price point. 3). Totally personal here, but I dig the exhibition casebacks on the new SMP line. When people ask me why I am into watches, it helps to show them the work and effort that go into things that are often not very well thought of outside the watch lover's mind. 4). Titanium bracelet. I like it, but I don't. In particular, I do not like that it appears the only adjustments come in the holes in the bracelet. My fear is that I am either gonna have too much room and the watch will "wiggle" on my wrist, or it will wear too tight to eliminate said "wiggle". 5). I would likely sell my black SMP if I got this, and I just can't help but feel it is the better watch. I have it on the 20MM Mesh Ploprof bracelet, and I prefer the look and feel compared to the one offered from "No Time to Die". So, I am probably gonna pass. I might pick one up on 2nd hand market in a few months, once prices stabilize. If I do, likely would be on NATO at that point, as I think visually it works better with what they were/are trying to do with the piece. In mean time, will enjoy my current SMP, Spectre and PO offerings. Cheers! |
