Pressure Testing Results

Hey Guys!

I just recently purchased a used watch from an online AD. I had asked them to preform a pressure test and send me the results before they ship it to me. Here are the results, does it look kosher to you experts? Just want to make sure its ready for pool/beach time. Also, do most of you wear your watches in the pool/beach? I've read another thread and noticed that a few of you said they are scared to wear them in the water... Thank you for your time...

What watch are you buying? Why so low pressure test? 3 bars is like 20m practically just splashproof. That's all this test proves

Its been tested to 30m and passed so IMHO not tested to perform submersed in water just tested to basically water splash proof.

Which watch? I wouldn't hesitate to swim with any modern Rolex. I do not let water come anywhere near my vintage Rolex from 1984 though.

On what strap?

That watch is rated for 300m. Based on that test I would not take it near the sink.

Even my Cartier tank passes a 3 bar test and there is no way I'd trust that enough to swim with. Get at least a 10bar test.

Should I ask for a different watch/model or can that be fixed?

Ask him to increase to 10bar instead of a 3bar?

Yes, that would be a sufficient test to know whether it is suited for swimming.

3 bars is approximately 45 psi which is an equivalent depth of 100 feet. Panerai's are normally rated for 300 m or ~ 1000 feet. This test proves nothing unless it is performed at rated pressure and is not leaking.

As others have said this test is useless. The pam 005 is wr to 300 mt , ie 30 bars. Making a test for 3 bars makes no sense.

Agreed. More pressure. Get a good strap or two and enjoy the pool. Should be pretty simple to get a good seal on a 005

If it has been tested ok at 45psi then it would certainly be splashproof and I would have no issues swimming or diving with it to 30 metres.

I can pump my tester to 6Bar and if one if my watches passes that pressure test how can it be harmed by splashing water on it or by diving to 60 metres.
It has just proved it can handle that.

And I promise I won't move my hands too fast at that depth.

That is way, way too deep for most divers.

About 4 months after I had my 233 serviced by Panerai Hong Kong, I splashed it, in a basin. The next day the crystal was fogged.

They charged me 5000 HKD for the service to dry it out.

The results looked like the watch was leaking with +1.8 but can't be sure not knowing more about the test. But for a watch which is supposed to be rated for 300 meters this test proves nothing about its water proofness. I would choose another source for the watch if it were me.
