Protect the Crown!

Hello TRF~

Wanted to share with you a way to protect the clasp crown of your watch from normal wear, yet still enjoy the badge of quality signified by the emblem.

Forgive me if someone else has revealed this idea.

Best to my friends here on TRF!

WRT the rest of the watch, I suppose it could be covered as well, however my experience is the convex crown tends go wear faster being the highest point on the clasp.

"Protect the Crown!" Isn't this what British soldiers used to say right before that met their end in battle?

Well some of my watches are 20 plus years old and two were just used and abused as tool watches for many years underwater. But the crown emblem on the clasps are fine with out any form of stickers or other protection sure there are scratches but thats normal from wearing.

I have considered this but was always concerned about oils and moisture that may get trapped and how the metal might react.

Also, it might end up creating a very prominent and sharply delineated "clean" area surrounded by normal wear when you remove the film.

I see what you are saying. Makes sense to me. Maybe the softer gold emblems may tend to wear faster than the harder stainless.?.?

Agree. Perhaps covering the entire clasp would help to eliminate the wear difference. Regarding the trapped oil/moisture, no idea. All interesting concerns. I have put all sorts of tapes over the clasp thru the years without any adverse effects.

x2...like having a couch that you move after years of it in the same spot. Clean carpet in a used area. I say just leave it and no need to cover it. Seems silly to me.

Interesting. Thanks for sharing. I find that the clasp crown is one of the easiest ways to identify a Rolex in the wild--particularly where long sleeves are present.

Interesting but I don't see the point. Just polish at service.

Good idea but I feel I buy my watches to wear them and if they get a scratch or something then it doesn't bother me. We give people a hard time when they don't take all the stickers off when they get there watches and this is basically putting them back on again.
I would also be worried about the difference in the area of the sticker like someone else said earlier

I would really like seeing some pics of these old friends of yours. I love seeing watches used for their purpose and the stories that go with them.

keep them away from overzealous polishing, this includes RSC.
