What is your favorite modern homage to the vintage original?

There have been a lot of great homages to the original as of late from the likes of Tudor, Omega, Tag Heuer, and more.

I love all of these, but I have a particular affinity for the Tudor Black Bay Bucherer edition as well as the Jack Heuer 85th birthday Heuer Autavia. I love the Black Bay because of it's unique colorway and the Autavia truly looks like a modern-sized version of the original - I love the silver panda dial.

What is your favorite and why? Please post pics of others not mentioned here as well as this is a neat topic for those of us who love vintage AND modern.

I have to agree, although I'm not thrilled with the shiny blingy bracelet. I think I'd have to brush that bracelet if I sported one of the new Autavias. That or wear it on a leather strap.

I saw the Ranger in person and I have to say it looked much better in the flesh and I love the shovel hands. I've always appreciated a simple three-hander with the 12-3-6-9 arabics and that's proably why I like the Explorer and the Black Bay Bucherer edition so much.

Of course, how could I forget. Omega knocked these out of the ballpark!

The Calibre 11 Siffert edition is pretty sweet too. Which is your favorite?

In spite of my efforts to never buy another new watch again...a record I’ve kept for 20 years!...this amazing Omega checked all the boxes. Including a fantastic price.

Agreed. I don't even mind the patina-inspired lume, I think it looks great! Beautiful watch!

And one of the added bonuses (besides how well it glows in the dark) is the slight dome of the sapphire. Subtle, but incredibly eye-catching.

I agree that the Omegas are probably the best homage watches, but those big shiny lugs on ALL of them ruin them for me. Same with the new Heuer chronos. Why oh why do the lugs have to be polished!?

The classic Omega Speedmaster Pro Moonwatch isn't really an homage watch, but man, it's still so cool. The fact that the new ones still look so close to the originals is fabulous. And no polished lugs! Yay!

No question the lugs are substantial. But, they never really bothered me much to begin with, so now I don’t even really notice them. One thing that did bug me (along with many other owners, as I discovered over on the Omega Forum) are the polished center links on the bracelet.
...an issue that was quickly remedied!

Definitely the Omega 60th anniversary trilogy for me by a mile in this category.

Andy, that is a winner too. I'm glad I'm not into homage - there are many out there I like.

The Monaco is another one that is one of my favorites.

Agree. It is IMO one of the best looking and perfectly proportioned sports watches ever made. You also get one helluva lot of horological tech for the dollars.

It is a VERY accurate timepiece. I've been checking it daily against the atomic clock site. Plus, the approx. 60 hours of reserve power is fantastic.
The only downside is waiting for that first scratch, scar, blemish to show up. It's inevitable, but gotta happen eventually!

Is this a standard Omega 300 with a Nato or is it a Spectre edition?

The Spectre LE has a bigger Omega logo and no "12" - for better product placement on the big screen

Super series of watches so far... how far back in time can we go? if 2004 is allowed, can I post this?

Additionally, the bezel on the Spectre edition is a GMT-style with 1 - 12 instead of the diver's 0 - 60.
Plus, when bought new, the Spectre comes fancy box filled with a lot of treats...as well as a few thousand more tacked onto the price tag.

Thanks. So is this a model I could go and buy relatively easily? It looks brilliant!

Thank you for the kind words.

relatively easily: Well, yes and no. It's an LE from 2004, that is an homage to the original 60's "racing" speedies that were declined back then in a few iterations.

they are not that hard to find in good nick, you can check the usual suspects that are specialized in speedies, they are always a couple for sale at one given point in time out there. However, the price has hiked up seriously over the past couple of years - still way (think 5x) below the originals, though!

However if you are into vintage rollies (which I've only recently started to foray into thanks to my recently found infatuation for the 1675 pepsi and the snowflake and I'm still in shock at), I would think this would look like petty cash to you anyway :)

You can "franken" one up though with a modern speedie and adjusting a 70's MarkII Racing service dial. It's been done before, it looks pretty good, and it costs half the price of a proper Japan Racing like the one above :)

The other solution is this: the homage to the MkII racing - which I think is just as good looking as the original MkII racing, except that stupid date window.

(not my watch, thanks to ABTW for the pic)
Then again you can also get a "real" MkII racing, too! Anyway... I can keep going on for a while, handing over to others now :)
