Just returned from Napa last night, didn't take any photos really as I have been to most of the wineries previously and was visiting old friends.

Some highlights though...

2003 Chateau Latour Grand Vin
2015 Realm Moon Racer
2012 Realm The Absurd
2012, 2013, 2014 Odette
2006 Scarecrow

Plus a few 2017 barrel samples.

Drinking well, I would give it 90 minutes for it to come around though! It has a long life ahead of it.

How was the Scarecrow? I'm tempted to pick up a few of the 06's as they seem to be available right now. My last one was an '08 and it rockin but could've stayed in the bottle for quite some time afterwards.

06 was fantastic and in a great place...I would stock up! Luckily I have a place locally that has a fantastic price but never bit on them but I will be now.

yoniman Got me thinking about New Zealand wine, so decided to open this today to go with some lasagna.

elephant-hill.jpg

Really enjoyed it at the cellar door, but they only sold it through the restaurant (with restaurant mark-ups). Luckily found a bottle at a department store in Auckland on our way out of the country.

My wife likes Grgich Hills. I’ve only had 1 bottle of Round Pond but did enjoy it. Can’t wait till we head back to the states so I can open up some bottles of wine. I wish I brought some with me on our trip. Enjoy my friend and Happy Holidays to you!

Same to you all my friend!! Both are definitely quite good — it’s actually been a while since I’ve opened up a bottle of either one so I figure it was time!!!

Round Pond is one I’d definitely recommend trying!

Round Pond is great! I believe its highly under the radar for the money.

What's everyone's bottle for Christmas Eve dinner? I have set the following...

2010 Cheval Blanc
2016 Until the End
2011 Fait Main Sleeping Lady
2010 Chateau Latour Pauillac

Family dinner out at a fantastic restaurant tomorrow, we will only be missing one family member as he and his wife will be arriving Christmas Day early AM.

We're having two out of these five for Christmas Eve dinner, I still haven't decided which two yet. We're headed to Morton's this year. I normally make a USDA prime rib roast but we've had some family dynamic issues change this year so we're changing it up. Any insight Roger as to which two you think would be better? The Sloan is a 2004.

Yeah, Mother in Law wants 100 Acre but she's only going to have a tastings worth of a pour. Don't really want to open it up for just that. Really craving some Desafio de Jonata but I can't seem to get myself to pull out any of the ones I have left that are ready to drink, like a kid that doesn't want to share his toys lol.

Wife wanted a taste of some Melka CJ tonight, who am I to tell her no.

NICE!!!!!! The Quella and the Pluribus are both drinking phenomenally - I’ve had both - and the Sloan will be spectacular - without a doubt. I’d put the Hundred Acre away.

Two schools of thought for me — I’d either start with the 07 quella and finish with the Sloan - or start with the Mayacamas and finish with the Pluribus. Those would be my choices!!

(but....there is no wrong answer out of that bunch!!!)

I’ve just decided on my two for tonight...I always look forward to opening something special for the holidays!!
