White Dial Panerai 563 vs 499 vs ?
Hi there, I am looking for a white dial Panerai for my son. I am thinking a 44mm Luminor. I am looking at the 499 and 563. I’d appreciate insight on either/both.
Thanks in advance! Anthony

White Dial Panerai 563 vs 499 vs ?
Hi!
I have a 499. IMO, it is a GADA watch. Excellent water resistant, automatic movement with a 3-days power reserve rating. However, why are you still looking at 499? The new and slimmer model 1499 is readily available but has a blue small-seconds hand and a newer P.9001 movement. Here is my 499 I do not have a 563. I do have both 560 and 562, steel and titanium version respectively. A 114 for it’s white dial trinity with 560&562. I have friends who has 564 and 510, steel and titanium of 563 version. They say the P.5000 is a nightmare. Ironically, my 560 and 562 which also has P.5000 movement are perfect and very accurate and consistent. My 560 runs for 229 hours while my 562 runs for 219 hours. 560 562 114 (Out of subject) Back to your question. It is difficult to decide for you as I do not know what kind of lifestyle your son leads. Does he prefer a manual or an automatic watch? Looks wise, both 563 and 499 look very similar except for the date. Lastly, a 1950 Luminor (499) case VS Bettarini (563) case wears rather differently. The latter sits more comfortably. Bought it from Milan Boutique back in 2014 end September. Excellent watch, built like a tank but an elegant tank. Very versatile too, 499 will match almost any straps you throw on it. More pictures for you. Mounted on a Mauser Ammo strap made by Micah of Vintager. Mounted on an ordinary calf leather by Escobar (Turkish guy) straps. Mounted on folded 100% canvas strap by Jose Maria Aguilar (Spanish) Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

I recently purchased this 654 and am in love with it. Hasn’t left my wrist. Comes on a Pontevecchio strap but changed to a Jules Verne a few days ago. Automatic, 3 day power reserve and fly back Chrono functions

I have a PAM 563. I went with the 563 as I felt the white dial was most traditional on the Luminor case. I think white dial Panerai are often underrated, but I would not get one as my one and only PAM. The only problem with the 563 is that its movement (which is shared by the 510 and other similar 8 day models) does run fast when fully wound. It evens out with time, but a full wind will run fast after 24 hours. I am told some owners have brought this up to Panerai who essentially said, "Sorry, that's just the way it is."

The P5000 is Panerais low end movement and the slightly erratic time keeping over a full 8 day wind is a known "quirk"
No quick set and no hacking would annoy me more than a small time variance (as long as it was small). |

The P5000 keeps great time for me. The trick is to put it face down over night.

Ahh,,,, 422, here is my on canvas. And another picture of it mounted on calf leather Just as they say, beauty is in the eyes of the beholder and likes are very subjective. No right no wrong. Buy and wear what appears and sings to you is best. Why even bother what others say. As for me, I have several Panerai watches. I just feel it will be complete to have both white and black, even more exotic colors will be welcomed. IMO, if possible, try to collect a Radiomir, Luminor, Radiomir 1940 and Luminor 1950 case watches. It will be more or less complete. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |
