116613ln or 16613ln?
I’ve had the black two-tone sub on the brain for a few years now. It’s time to do something about this.
I own a number of ceramic and 5-digit models. Glidelock is definitely a factor in favor of the 6-digit, but price is not necessarily important. For discussion’s sake, I’m leaving cost out of it, and thinking about the relative merits of each piece on the wrist only. Not interested in the LB in any stripe, though I should own one of those at some point, and not doing full PM for this watch. I’ve been charged up for the 116613ln for awhile, but tried a 16613ln on today and it gave me pause. Why not consider the 5-digit? Curious to hear from those who do own or have owned both, or who are former owners of either. Thanks, all. |

No thoughts on this?
It’s one of the rare threads these days that is about watches that are generally available, doesn’t involve supply issues, or complaining about ADs. I’d love to hear from folks on this question. |

The elegancy of the 5 digit is obvious side by side but whenever I strap one on it always feels disappointing compared to the 6 digit.
Whole package of the 6 digits feels much more as a high quality watch and just for that feel I'd go 6 digit every time

I’m thinking bluesy on the other hand. Despite 5 digit has lower price, it just couldn’t match the subC and the bigger, bolder case that 6 digit has to offer, IMO.

This, but for me if I'm going TT in the sub, go blue all day. If black, go 116713, IMHO. |

I will never buy a TT watch but my choice would always be the 6 digit version.

Thanks, guys. I’m likely overthinking this one.
I tend to wear my 6-digit sea-dwellers and green sub more than anything else, save for my 5-digit sea-dwellers, which never disappoint. Love the Glidelock too much to pass on it, in all likelihood. |

⬆️⬆️⬆️ Agree! The glidelock is a great feature, and the 6 digit in TT is such a nice piece. I like the 5 digits as well, but some references just call for the modern version...TT Submariner, & most TT’s would fall into that category for me. (Daytona being an exception) JMO.

In addition to the glidelock and much improved clasp; you also have the solid gold center links! I also prefer the maxi dial & case. I had a 5 digit, and don’t miss it a bit!

New model.Only thing I prefer on the old model is the writing in Gold on the black dial and the yg colour of the rings around the hour marker.

I've come close to pulling the trigger on the same watch. For me, it was always six-digit -- the five-digit wasn't even a contender. The inky dial and polished gold center links just scream for the glossier ceramic bezel.

Yep, it’s always been on my radar, but there’s always been a higher priority item on the list...until now. I think the 116613ln is calling me! |

I really like the gold lettering against the black dial in my 16613LN.
That said, the ceramic bezel, the larger case, the newer clasp, and the solid center links of the newer models are all significant pluses and they drove me to get of a TT CHNR (which I love); but I'm glad I kept my 16613LN for the different look and feel that it has with it's 5 digit case and gold lettering.

I've owned both. I wore the 16613ln for longer than any other watch I've ever owned (as in I daily'd it for years and years). Then one day I just randomly decided to sell it and buy the 116613ln. I had liked the look of the larger dot indices and the bulkier case. But after a couple of weeks on the wrist I just wasn't loving it the way I did the 16613ln. It was honestly something about the black color. Just seemed much more shiny and lacquered if you will. Not for me. I traded it for the 116613lb and liked that much better. So... if it were me... I'd vote in this order 116613LB > 16613LN > 116613LN

It is the 5-digit reference case that made me fall in love with Rolex. While the 6-digit references are technically superior without a doubt, I always felt the ceramic bezel was too glossy and the maxi case too large, boxy and squarish. The aluminum bezel also keeps the colors more natural if you know what I mean (for example the green on the Kermit vs the Hulk or the old Pepsi vs the new). It’s often said that Rolex is very conservative when it comes to upgrades, and that they’re more about evolution than revolution, however I think the upgrade from the 5-digit to the 6-digit was very much a revolution and too big a departure from the essence of the watch with the introduction of the maxi case. I’ve always been a modern watch enthusiast and always wanted the newer versions but I must say the 5-digit pre-ceramic sub is a lot more elegant. Also as it’s been mentioned already, the good text on the dial is a lot more special than the regular white on the modern watches. It’s one of the reasons I felt I had to have the TT root beer as it says GMT Master II in rose gold as well as the GMT hand. I’m actually trying to find a good 16613LN right now!
