Is New Datejust 116234 Genuine

Hi I haven't posted for a while since purchasing my Sub a couple of years ago. I've recently decided to partX the sub for a Datejust 116234 with Jubilee bracelet in SS/white gold, I know the general consensus is that the sub is the better watch but I fancied something more classical.

I went back to Watch Agency, Southend on Sea UK who are great to deal with. When the watch arrived it only had a few of the intricate protective stickers attached but came with the box all reg cards etc. I've checked the etched coronet at the 6 position which looks fine and the rehaut engraving looks right with the serial No at the bottom and the cyclops magnification looks right but I'm still aware of the top end fakes on the market. I'm still a novice when it comes to Rolex's therefore I'd appreciate advice from you folks who are far more knowledgeable on how to tell if a Datejust is genuine.

One thing that I've noticed is the Sub cyclops had a blue sheen which I believe is a reflective coating, my new Datejust cyclops doesn't have the reflective coating, is this normal for the Datejust.

Looks ok to me, but I'm no expert, as I've purchased through my AD, have full confidence in him. By the way, agree with your choice for something classical, but disagree with your comment that the consensus says the Sub is the better watch. They're different, but I have both, and I don't feel one is better.

The Sub being generally preferred to the Datejust is something I'd read whilst doing the ground work before making the swap. Must admit My sub was definitely weighty compared to the datejust which I find more comfortable to wear. Nice watches, wish I could have kept both....

They're 2 different watches for 2 different purposes. The Submariner is popular but there are quite a few of us out there who prefer other models first. No Rolex is better or worse than another. It all depends which you like the most and which works for your lifestyle.

No such thing as a bad Rolex.

Can't disagree that the Sub is more preferred or popular, especially with trend to sporty and heft. Not sure if DJ2 is stealing sales, but DJ was the choice for me, classic, dressy. And you'll find it more versatile than expected. Enjoy it !

My only issue was use of the word 'better'.

That is a nice datejust and looks genuine to me. If serial no. on watch is same as on the paperwork, it is good. Sub is not better than datejust, as both have the same movement. I have had both and prefer the datejust.

I too own both. I could never choose between them.

There are times when I only wear the sub and times when I only wear the DJ.

I do think the cyclops on your DJ2 seems a bit odd but maybe it's just the picture.

Thanks everyone could those that think there's an issue in the first photo clarify please. The cornet on the rehaut at the 12 position in the close up looks off center, it must be the photo as it's smack bang dead center.....

It looks absolutely fine. Likelihood is that it's a few years old, Rolex only started putting the AR coating on the cyclops fairly recently

The dj looks good to me as well but I am also no expert. I have the dj and the sub also. I used to feel the sub was superior but now after ownership of a new dj for a few years, I must say that I feel they both have qualities unique to themselves. The sub is an easy read, but a little hard on my wrist bone and the upper portion of my hand. The dj with silver dial, sticks and jubilee bracelet is more comfy but more difficult to read. Both are waterproof and I am glad that I own them both.

My Sub was 2011 with AR coating on the cyclops, the supplier of my Datejust which I purchased new in June 2013 informed me it was new but they took it in new in July 2012. Does the Datejust come with AR on the Cyclops or is it only particular to diving/sports models?
