Rolex Watch Case Problem
I am asking this for a friend of mine who is buying a Rolex Sub 1680. He is not an expert so he brought it to me for my opinion. The watch looks authentic but the problem is in the case. It has the Orig Rolex Design stamped between the 12o"clock lugs and the ref 1680 but the case number is 5.3m. As far as I know the 5.3m serial should have the "Registered Design" stamped and not "Orig Rolex design".
Owner has proof that he has owned the watch for the last 20 years and showed service receipts from RSC, the latest one was 5 years ago. Is this a watch that had the case replaced by RSC before? |

@Erpin
I have never seen a 5.3 mil. range 1680 with Orig Rolex Design stamped between the lugs. Like you say, it should have the "Registered Design" text. I think everyone who reads your post will want to see some clear macro shots of the lug/stamps as well as the dial. Can you provide? __________ Instagram: @onthedial |

as many collectors know, there is a chance that the thing was re-cased with original serial numbers if it was worked on years ago in the philippines. RSC in manila used to stamp the original serial numbers on replacement cases rather than provide the usual 4 million serial number cases like other parts of the world. the font style of the number stamping should be the tell. we had a GMT from that same period that was issued a new case with original serial numbers by RSC in manila. if in doubt the best way to check the history is simply bring the thing to makati and have it looked up in the computer.
