1665 for 16520?

I was recently offered a 16520 A series (with paper, and box, no books and tags), for my 1665 Mk I GW (no papers, with box) and a US$13-14k top up on my end. I should say that my GW is all original, save for bezel insert. The 16520 looks to be in excellent condition.

Does that make sense at all? I have a weakness for the 16520, but that seems a wee bit rich for my blood.

No easy answer. Two very different watches and both gives a unique feel/look on the wrist. Personally I love both and am lucky enough to be the owner of a black dial A series 16520 and a 1665 GW. Should point out that it took me much longer to find a good condition 1665 than a 16520. It seems to me the GW is much rarer. I also like to wear the 1665 more, the thick dome and maxi markers makes it so standout (I'm sure you know). If possible, keep the 1665 and buy the 16520.

Makes no sense at all. It sounds like you're only considering it because it was offered to you, not because you actually want a Daytona.

Keep the 1665. As petehk mentioned, finding a good 1665 is far more difficult than a good 16520.

I would take a 1665 over a 16520 all day long.

Not a good trade for me. You should know what you want anyway, so go for it if you think you want to.

You will regret the trade in a major way. These chronos are cool and even cooler if you use them, but if you do not time anything; I feel they get old quick.

Thanks gents, always helpful to hear from collectors much more experienced than myself!

It will be a wrench no doubt. The 1665 is one of my first vintage finds and even though it wears a bit small on the wrist, you can't beat the acrylic dome and that matt dial!

Will post pics shortly for context (once I fine a reliable way to do this... still getting the hang of the process)!

I have a soft spot for vintage Daytonas. So I vote 16520.

Finally managed a way to upload pics of my 1665, and the 16520 on offer (at a hefty top up!)

Thoughts and comments welcome!

The dweller wears small on your wrist?

13-14k top up is nuts. Even at todays hyped up Daytona prices. I wouldn’t even trade them straight.

That Daytona isn't patrizzi or inverted... its a nice piece but that's too much premium for that one.

Counter at 8K USD top up (Only if papers are punched)...full set 16520s going for 30K USD...you still need to get the booklets.

GW is cool, but if you desire a change up a full set 16520 is something cool to transition into.

I have a 16520, I love the watch, wouldn't part with it. But I don't hesitate to wear it because I know I can replace it fairly easily (not for what I paid, but). A nice 1665, that's a lot harder to come by. I think you might regret this.
