Much debated on forums, with the only real answer being it's up to personal preference. Personally, I think the hand looks good on Submersibles (e.g., 682, 1305), less so on Luminors with ecru lume.

Your AD has it slightly wrong: the earlier non-blue hands equivalent models are already discontinued.

Personally it’s not the blue hand that bothers me (I kind of like a touch of colour in a watch) but more the combination of blue hand, ecru lume and shinny hour and minute hands.

Again with panerai it’s all about preferences and we all have our own weird ones.

Personally not a big fan of patina lume and blue hands combo as warm color and cold color clashing

Patina lume works better with gold hands whereas blue hands work better with standard greenish white lume

The blue isn’t what bothers me. I can’t get passed the chunky crown guard lever.

I am personally not a big fan of the blue seconds hand. As others have said, I think it looks good on the Submersibles. Panerai rolled out the blue color on a lot of models a few years back and continues to do so. It's overkill if you ask me.

I love the blue second hand on my 682, and like it in general on other models.

Spices up a rather dull piece.

But I'd take red over blue if the option existed.

That being said-who in the hell thought it was a clever idea to put a dive watch on a leather strap?

This is exactly why I picked my 359 over a 1359. On some pieces, the blue second hand looks out of place.

I have an acronym for this sort of thing, T I P - This is Panerai.

It’s not exclusively a dive watch, that’s what Submersibles are for. In any event, changing the leather strap for the supplied rubber strap with the supplied tools is a five minute job.

Almost like the Rolex crown at 6 o'clock, my AD said the blue hand was a way to distinguish the models with the new/updated movements??

Not sure if that's strictly true, but just what he said.
