First Rolex - Oyster Date 1500 (34mm) Matte Black Dial
Hello! Wanted to say hi and show my first Rolex acquisition.
It's a 1500 circa 1972. It has a matte black dial in decent condition if you discount the lume dots that have come off at 10, 1 and 2. You can see still see some of the residue where it has been along with noticeable tritium corrosion on the minute and hour hands. Bracelet is a 78350 which was purchased separately. I believe the 78350 was released around 1975? I'm more of a leather strap guy and I think this will look amazing on a nice brown vintage strap. But I am quite loving the feel of the bracelet already! 1500_1.jpg 1500_2.jpg 1500_3.jpg 1500_4.jpg 1500_5.jpg 1500_6.jpg |

Thank you! Yes it is hackable. No quick set on the date though! But at least it encourages me to wear it all the time! Imagine the horror of setting it one day too fast. Well you could always wait for it to wind down and let the day catch up with it. I wouldn't want to stop the seconds and let the day catch up even though it's a twinlock. Way too humid where I'm from.

The first bracelet had 'G' stamped on it and if I were to follow the chart from Bob's Watches (https://www.bobswatches.com/rolex-serial-numbers), it would date it to 1982. However the bracelet was not in good condition and one of the 'hooks' on the clasp has broken off. The supplier was kind enough to take it in and replace the entire strap with another 78350. Albeit newer and more polished with the bracelet code "L8" dating it back to (according to the link above) August of 1987. Admittedly, it would be nice to get a vintage 7835 bracelet as the 78350 came out in '75. So my OP Date 1972 most likely was equipped with a 7835.
