**** New strap alert: vintage burgundy gator ***
i've been hunting for a burgundy gator for some time and have also wanted to finally pick up a di stefano (simona) strap, so, i took the plunge and killed two birds with one stone.
first impression: the SMELL of the leather! intoxicating. second impression: truly sensational work that just oozes quality. also, simona custom built this one for me, as i wanted a polished buckle instead of the standard brushed available on her site. third impression: the strap is a bit thicker and a tad longer than my other gators, so, it's striking me as hybrid dress & casual strap. didn't realize there was such a niche, but, now that it's filled, i'm quite happy about it. the strap changes from almost a brown color in low light to a vibrant burgundy in the light. and, last, but not least, this strap comes complete with "TRF insides". as simona doesn't provide tubes with her straps (why, i will never know), i posted another thread here asking about whether tubes were needed for quick change system PAMs, and phil (ocwatching) so very kindly sent me a pair of tubes all the way from california. thanks again, phil. you're a class act. thanks for looking. |

Beautifully finished strap Cru, lovely.
The grain/pattern is very striking. I have a strap, similar colour from another maker, but whilst the patterns are very even, it doesn't have the life your strap exhibits. Congratulations. cheers richard |

Nice combo, Simona straps are great - and well done to Phil for kindly supplying the tubes
However, imho the GSD suits your 164 a bit better, at least in the photos you posted

sweet combo Cru!
and again...no worries about the tubes.. I have always been a fan of Simona's gators..one of my very first strap purchases after I got my 312K...312 is gone..but the strap is still here... You are right in that its not really a dressy strap but it sure feels a lot more "durable" compared to the OEM croc.. here is mine from a while back... ENJOY!

i can see why you held on to the strap, for sure. it gives the feeling of being able to last for a long, long time. |

Excellent choice. As soon as my Pan 359 arrives I am going to look into one myself.
