Why more than 1 Diver?

How come people have more than 1 Rolex diver watch with a black bezel and black face? The differences between them are ever so slight that I can't understand why one needs more than one..?

Your options are:
Submariner
Submariner Date
Sea-Dweller

Why need all 3?

Umm - well for starters one has a clean symmetrical face with no cyclops and no date, one has both a date and cyclops, and the other has as date and no cyclops...

It's called the Sub Trifecta and it is pretty awesome. Those minor differences are HUGE when on the wrist. Totally different wear per watch. I was content with the Sub and Sub Date until I saw an SD in the wild. Two weeks later it was mine. Amazing watches.

It's true, those subtle differences are big differences to those of us who study and appreciate every detail of our watches. To my wife, my Speedmaster is the same as my Sub because, as she said, "they're both black". But to us here, the difference is HUGE.

To non enthusiasts they probably all seem the same, but to afficiandos like us (who are interested enough to participate in a Rolex forum!), the differences are apparent and appreciated.

I dunno, why do some people start two or three threads a day asking contrived questions about hypothetical scenarios? Because it floats their boat, I guess, same as does the ownership of multiple divers for many of us.

Why not? If something happens to one, I'd wear the other. Have you ever been without a Rolex? It's quite painful

To me Submariner, sea Dweller, GMT and explorer look 90% the same. As the result buying one is enough, for the second Rolex watch I would buy something totally different like Datejust II or Daytona.

OP, are you framiliar with Mike Woods ?

I have a SD and Submariner Date LV and am currently on the hunt for a mint Z serial Submariner two liner, and I may even add a non LV 16610 to the mix, all very different watches to me.

One can never have too many Submariners imho.
