Icon7 These are happy tears!

Almost 32 years ago to the day, I bought my first Rolex....an Explorer 2 (1655), and I loved it and wore it for 17 years, then I felt I needed cash to support my family so I sold it almost 15 years ago....and have regretted it ever since....but my family comes first. Now, are you ready for the rest of the story? Yesterday I, after much prayer and negotiation, walk confidently into my AD and purchased my brand new Explorer 2...with stickers and all!! Nostalgia and emotion filled my soul....because I felt like I was getting my original Explorer back....only newer and better...except without all the memories....however, I can now start new memories....and this time I will keep this baby....and care for it and pass it on to my son, hopefully after I have worn it for 35 or 40 years! Tears are streaming down my cheeks as I write.....how embarrassing....but I don't care....I finally have my Explorer back....and I feel 10 feet tall! I also received a 12.5 % discount after some haggling from the regional manager of this chain AD and they allowed me to ship it out of state to avoid sales tax! So I am a happy camper and all is well in the world. Will send pics soon! She is taking the long way home!

Congrats! I take it you went with the black face?

Maybe a TRF member ended up with that 1655!

The honor you showed in the past has brought you great happiness now and every time you check the time you will know you did the right thing and fate has brought you back to a place with a new Rolex.

Congrats and enjoy!

Congrats. My Rolex story is similar. Had to sell my sub 4 years ago to pay the bills after losing my job. Although I didn't get another sub, the 116710 was just as sweet to walk in and buy last month.

Your 100% correct. These watches do evoke tears, both of joy and at times pain. Like when I traded the Sea Dweller my wife bought me as a wedding present in 1982 for a new Sub in 1987. Damn I wish I kept the SD! I have also encountered times where I thought I may have had to sell a piece but thankfully it never came to that and my kids are going to have several family heirlooms someday.

Great story and you certainly earned as well as deserved the new Rolex - Congrats!!!

Wearing a Rolex can be very meaningful to some and can represent their core values and be worn with pride not to show that we are controlled by the passing of time BUT rather that WE are in control of it and as a result our destiny.

Great story. I've sold several over many years to fund family-benefitting investments. Always painful to part with them...but never a regret in putting family first. (Only reget is that they nearly always cost more years later!)
