Maybe he's in the vintage sub-forum. But wow, that's pretty incredible provenance and to sell that is almost like selling his own child given that it was bought to celebrate his daughter's birth. Makes for a great story and maybe that'll help the price too.
It reads as though he's selling it to simplify the inheritance process between his children although it would've been nice to hand it down. It's the happiest move though.

Shame he is selling it, with all that back story I would want to hold on to it although I am sure financial matters trump sentimentality in this case.

Nice pay day for GH though if best part of a third of the sales proceeds go to them !! |

Apart from the resale value I'd much rather have my 114060. Better in every way, although I do understand some people like old rare things even if they're poorer quality than modern items. I hope it gets worn by the new owner.

Great story and this is probably also one of those rare times where the actual value just exceeds the sentimental value. Although it would be nice to keep the watch in the family, its not an item that can be devided or shared by its inheritants, and if the owner decided that now is the time to cash in and maybe buy his sons or daughters a Rolex each and leave the rest of the money for them then I am all for it...
And also amazing that the sole reason for the enormous pricetag is basically the dial.... |
