Can a glossy dial have pumpkin color?

Hello all,

I was talking to a jeweler this week about buying my Rolex submariner 16800 with a glossy dial and pumpkin patina. He told me the watch was not old enough
To have that color, he said it may have been refinished.
Here is what I know, it still has the original Swiss T>25 dial, serial number Starts with 84 my dad would have gotten it in the mid to late 90’s. I know he didn’t do any work to it or service. He was an antique dealer and new better than to have it refinished, also our family fell on hard times and Rolex refinishing would not have been in the budget. So for at least the last 20 years the watch has been in a safe.
Any information you could give would be great I am heading to do battle on jewelers row in Philadelphia next week,
Thanks

I would find a different jeweler. Most jewelers aren't very knowledgeable when it comes to vintage Rolex watches.

Here is a 16800... Serial almost 8.4... 1984 glossy dial... This was my father's since new and gave to me... looks like it's starting to slowly patina... This is worn everyday...

So yes it can turn pumpkin I guess if you put it away... Also this is the time when rolex formula on the dials had issues and crack, matte or looks like stars in the sky... Pretty cool history...

What do You mean by “heading to do battle”? If You expect for a Dealer to pay You a fair price your in for a treat of lowball offer after lowball offer.

Hi I think the year 1984 glossy dial with tritium marker still can develop deep patina. I have the year 1983 7mil serial sub 16800 matte dial show pumpkin patina. So it is quite right to have patina on that watch. Here is the watch for your reference.

Seen many examples over the years of glossy dials with orangish patina. Generally safe queens that did not see much light.

I've seen some subs with a jubilee bracelet?
Is this correct or the oyster bracelet has been replaced... ?

Here's my '95 16600. It has started to turn a bit. I actually don't wear it much at all anymore, but it was my first so I've never parted with it. It lives in the safe 95% of the time.

I'm curious to see what it'll look like after a few years tucked away.
