14270 with luminova?
Gentlemen, could you help me with something?
I bought this watch from a reputable small dealer a few days ago. I wanted a 14270 with papers, with luminova (not tritium). I realized something today and wanted to ask if any experts had any thoughts I thought Rolex switched to luminova and “Swiss made” in 1998. This watch has papers that identify it from March 1997 but dial reads “Swiss made” rather than t-Swiss. Is it possible to have a luminova dial from 1997? Watch serial number on case matches the papers. Everything looks legit to me. At least to my non-expert eye, it does not look like the yellowed tritium color. Thoughts? Reasonable to assume watch could have been produced in 1997 for 98 release hence the issue? I doubt a 20 year old watch would have a service dial. I realize I’m likely being a bit crazy but all original is important to me and since I just purchased I’d rather identify an issue now if one exists. Photos below |

Sounds like a service dial. If it was Luminova from that time is would read Swiss only. Also don't think there's a chance that it was originally Luminova from 1997.

How badly does a service dial affect value?

I'd say a fair bit. 14270s sell for around the mid $4000 range. Service dial would drop into the high $3k range. I'm no expert though so take my price range with a grain of salt.

Sounds about right for an all original example. I'd go back and discuss with the dealer if he sold it to you as an all original.
