Found no sufficent answers googeling...

Thanks in advance and best regards Jack

Well, can't say for sure on all 70's dials, but my '73 had tritium that was almost as
dead as a doornail.

My '80 1500 dial will glow breifly when exposed to bright light. It's the phosphorus I assume as opposed to the tritium itself.

My 70's SD after 10 years old has shown absolutely no lume under any conditions. It does not appear to have any replacements in that the dial and hands are original.

My 1968 5513 still does when I shine an LED flashlight on it.

Define "glow" and for how long after the light source is removed?

This. My 67 will glow briefly, as will my 59 (several seconds). My 62 won’t. The 6:00 plot on my 58 will.

Phosphorescent paint is designed to glow when it is excited..

Unfortunately, old lume is radio-luminescent, not photo-luminescent as todays lume is.

Radio-luminescent paint can/will still glow when exposed to a radiation source, which the sun is - it just won't store that energy, so you remove the source and the activity stops rather quickly.

The question is down to this issue.
I received the following watch.
Imho the lume looks fine, not re-lumed but I can't understand why it still glows?
Any similiar experiences or is just a case of a relumed watch.

I wonder why the hands don't glow. In one of the pics, it looks like the end of the triangle is peeling up, or the lume was applied in a way that it doesn't match the underneath triangle tip. Are you sure it wasn't relumed?

The orignal seller, someone renownd is 100% sure that its not relumed, but I don't have a good gut feeling about it.

That 12 o'clock lume is lifting off of the plot.

This is not tritium, which does not light up like that when exposed to a light source.

It may be one of the service dials labeled tritium, but were Luminova.

While I'm 10 or so years newer, my late 80's original insert pearl still glows nicely and for a long time while the lume plots have a short lived faint glow.

Whatever it is (in my opinion luminova) it's not going to be on the 3,6,9,or 12
marks much longer. The material is peeling off.

My 5513 '68 glows very briefly in a very dark room without being excited from a light (the full dial doesn't glow, just a small section).

The lume is the wrong color to start with! It has been relumed.

Based on your version of things, the seller is either dissembling or not well-informed. Unless there are factors we can’t know from one side of the story, this is a bad deal - and should be mitigated.

It has been relumed or is a dial from a source other than Rolex and is not original to that watch.

Even a service dial from Rolex doesn’t have lumped up material like that. Your other clue is the hands are not glowing.

If you paid any premium, demand a refund. If you get any push back, please return here and share that seller’s name.

Your "renownd" seller is suspect.

Tritium does not glow by being exposed to light. If tritium is glowing after light exposure it’s not tritium.
