For sporty watches, Omega or IWC. For dress, JLC.

I admire AP, VC, Lange, Journe, but their watches are solidly five figures. You can easily find things from Omega, IWC or JLC for four figures. Unless you have moolah to burn.

I can fill most needs in the dress and sport areas, easily, with GP and Breguet.

For dress: Credor Eichi II.
For sport: AP RO (though I think AP's quality is suspect but can't deny it's a good looking sports watch).

The Journe Bleu is beautiful, but very hard to obtain.
Grand Seiko has many affordable and obtainable options.

If money was no object it’d be PP5711 for a sports watch and ALS Datograph for a dress watch.
Within my realistic budget it’d be an Omega for a sports watch and a JLC for a dress watch.

Oops my bad Patek is off the table then AP Royal Oak would be my choice for a sports watch.

1st choice:
Sport Blancpain
Dress JLC

2nd choice:
Sport IWC or Grand Seiko
Dress GO

PS. Rolex wouldn't make the grade even if they were allowed.

Interesting in all the replies breitling has only been mentioned twice...
Have to say seems a lot share the feeling breitling isn't a consideration. Breitling wouldn't be in my top 10... omega on the other hand I'm a massive fan. Also as a lower end option a oris moonphase complication as a dress watch

Dress : JLC tribute reverso. Pink gold. The ultimate dress watch, not even Patek have made anything superior.

Sports : VC overseas. Blue dial. Awesome bracelet. Ticks all boxes...apart from holding value like Patek/Rolex
