Sorry to hear, really not nice of them. I have bought watches at Tourneau Bryant Park. The manager, is a nice guy and is knowledgeable about watches. However, I did go into the other Tourneau on Madison and was not really given any attention by the staff. I guess they prefer well dressed foreigners more than locals. On a side note, all the ADs are frustrated by the Rolex SS shortage, and endless calls from flippers.

I’d recommend you speak the cash office manager, not the store manager. That’s what I had to do when I had a similar issue at the same location - PM me for details if you’d like.

I would consider it. I'm obviously reaching out elsewhere but considering the difficulty of finding this piece let alone any other SS models I might just swallow my pride if i get the call.

Wow that's zero class to get sold out for a few minutes when they knew you were on your way, shame on them.

Whenever I venture into a Tourneau it always feels a bit off putting. I can’t see myself doing business with them personally. I’m glad they came through for you though. I wonder if someone pointed them to this thread. Wouldn’t surprise me if this made them pull some strings.

Went to the Tourneau in Waikiki Beach recently and tried on the Black Bay Bronze Tudor.

The sales guy didn't have much idea what it was. He did manage to tell me "Tudor is a sister company of Rolex," but apparently didn't know that the watch I was wearing and had placed on the tray in front of him to try on the bronze one was a Black Bay Black.

I toyed with him by asking what the lug width on the bronze was (famously an enormous 23 mm). It threw him into a tailspin. I spared him any questions about the movement.

No AD will take any form of payment over the phone. That IS a Rolex policy. Maybe back in the days, but it's a rule violation to take any deposit or payment over the phone. Any shop will attest to this as they get Rolex's secret shoppers calling around to test if the shop complies with their rules.

The AD's salesman is just a plonker. Either he did sell it for a higher price or he threw it back in the safe waiting for a higher bidder.

He invited the customer down to complete the deposit, which would then act as a contract once the deposit had been paid. As this would form both the offer, consideration and acceptance. The vendor would also share a mutual intent to supply goods.
It's crappy what the dealer did... but nothing from a legal standpoint.

That said, it is absolutely disgusting service.

Would disagree. The AD did do business over the phone. He just did not accept the deposit. Otherwise the material terms were met as it didn't appear that terms or price were in debate.

That is some very low-grade service.

I would have had it out with him at the store.

As a side note, I would imagine he didn’t want to take a phone deposit from you as he probably thought by doing so, you could stake a claim to it and might take your time in getting there.

Glad that they got one for you in the end.

The good news is the watch is probably now available for purchase from a gray dealer, defended by many on this forum despite their greed, and you can buy it today for just a 2000.00 dollar premium.

Glad to see you got YOUR BLNR after some more waiting time. I’m a firm believer that what is meant to be yours will be eventually.

Hopefully now you’re a happy camper.

Imo a judgemental and fairly ignorant statement. You’re of course entitled to your opinion and you’re free to buy from anyone, anywhere anytime, but the same applies to everyone.

I personally enjoyed years of buying watches (SS and PM) at 15, 20 even 30% off. I wasn’t complaining then and I’m not complaining now.

Furthermore, grey dealers sell based on market value, they’re not running charities and they’re not selling bread in a time of famine. They’re selling high demand luxury items and most are operating full time business that put food on the table and clothes on their families backs. If they bought and sold watches at MSRP they wouldn’t be in the business of being in business.

Additionally, many of the pieces you see for sale aren’t necessarilly priced based on the premiums you imagine come down to nothing more than greed. If I sell/trade my Daytona to a trusted seller or gray dealer, believe me I’m not selling it to them for 12.4k. I’m selling based on market value. Then people like you expect to see my Daytona come up for sale at 12.4k!? Haha. That’s laughable. So not you expect these dealers to lose money?

If you’re mad about it, be mad at rolex for holding back distribution, be mad at ADs for hording high demand pieces in their safes, or better yet, don’t be mad at all and realize this is a luxury market and it comes with a price to play the game.

Congratulations!
I just read this thread from the beginning and I feel for you. Infact I was in the same position a few months ago.

I had my name down for Bluesy at Mappin & Web, got a call from them and told me it’s here and I told them I’ll be down straight after work at 6pm. One hour before I finished work they phoned me to say the watch has been sold to someone else.

I asked them how could it be sold if it was held for me but they told me another SA contacted their client on their waiting list and they got to the store first. At that point flames were coming out of my head but I had to remain cool because I know I might need them in the future.
