$2.50 Vintage Submariner Thrift Store Find?
I randomly ran across this article/posting. I had no idea that Reddit had discussion groups.

The guy who bought it, posted it here.
https://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=670044 It wasn't $2.50. He paid $5,467.00 on eBay. You can see the auction. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Rolex-5513-...orig_cvip=true Dollars to doughnuts, he doesn't get the watch. Look at the seller. Certainly doesn't pass the rot check. Worth a gamble cause he'll get his money back. |

The original owner paid 2.50 at a thrift store. I paid 6500 for it from him on eBay. I’ll keep everyone updated once it arrives. Fingers crossed!

Hey guys, congrats on the nice pick up. Can someone explain why this was a killer deal? I believe I'll buy a 5513 some day, but it appears that good ones start around $9k. Is $6.5k a killer deal considering all the unknowns on this piece? Or is it exciting because it could be anywhere from a $9k watch to a $20k watch? And we will find out when it is examined?

It’s a long 5 mk2 insert.
The watch looks legit to me. Some of the comments on reddit made me think I was reading some of the threads here. |

Just got it today. Here are some quick preliminary photos. Serial is 1.79x,xxx
Tritium Lume has water damage some of the plots are black. My watchmaker is out of town for Easter so I can’t open the caseback. Bezel moves freely so something is wrong there. Crystal is domed, could be original T-19? Came on a 62510 Jubilee with 555 endlinks. To my eye, the piece looks authentic but won’t be 100% certain without the caseback opening. Its definately NOT a "Basket Case" (LOL)
I think the dial is going to be awesome, its the yellowed crystal thats making it look so bad. Looking Good

$2.50 Vintage Submariner Thrift Store Find?
I can’t manage to get a good photo between the lugs. The lume is slightly blackened but to me that’s no big deal. Also consistent with age, there are scratches between the lugs. Any tips on getting good photos in between?
There is no friction. It is wheeling freely. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

NO need to apologise
These are good - case is genuine. My only thing is condition of movement. But I think you scored a WINNER NO Basket Case Here!!

Heck yeah!
I was certain from looking at that eBay seller that maybe it was a scam. We're so used to it by now. Now the fun begins; proper restoration. Hopefully the movement checks out. Personally, I'd just change the crystal and keep the old one. Maybe source original hands. All depends on your budget. Maybe down the line. And, let the flames begin, a proper brushing of the lugs. They appear to be a high polish. Good luck, congrats, and keep the updates coming. |

So I stopped into my thrift store today to see if lightning can strike twice.
Guess what?! Nothing. Crapola I even looked over the costume jewelry and it was junk. I stopped in for the heck of it because I needed to get a new cabin filter next door at Advanced Auto Parts. |

Interestingly, the hands do not light up under UV exposure while the dial lights up briefly and then falls off rapidly. Would this indicate the hands are not original to the watch?
