Pick One: Yachtmaster Blue dial vs Datejust 41 Fluted Blue Dial

Which one would you pick if you could only have one, and please explain why.

Which blue dial is better?

my vote is the yachtmaster. I've got the rhodium version and I absolutely love it. It has all the right curves and shapes and the proportions are just awesome.

And that blue dial gives it a nice contrast.

One vote for the Datejust here. The Yachtmaster is just not distinctive enough for my taste. It was different when it had the platinum dial, that made it a really special piece, but putting a regular sunburst dial in there, whether rhodium or blue, diluted the watch too much. I much prefer the blue Datejust and actually own one of those. If you want a really cool Yachtmaster, rose gold on Oysterflex is where it’s at these days.

My vote goes to the YM. Personally, I like the size/dimensions, trip-lock crown and the overall look. It’s one of the most beautiful watches currently in the Rolex catalog, IMO.

YM blue dial without question. Absolutely gorgeous, sporty, and unique.

Can’t stand the grey bezel, so datejust for me.

The blue dial looks better in the DJ than in the YM, IMHO. To me the sunburst blue dial clashes with the sandblasted finish of the YM bezel insert. When holding the blue dial YM in my hands side by side with the platinum dial YM at the AD, I instantly knew I preferred the latter where dial and bezel perfectly matched.

The blue sunburst dial really works against the shiny polished bezel of the DJ. It's a great combination.

So, as much as I'm a fan of the YM and own one, I'd pick the blue dial DJ over the blue dial YM. However, when it comes to a beautiful blue dial, I think the TT Sub royal blue trumps them all. It doesn't have that greyish hue other Rolex blue dials have (DJ, YM, OP).

If it was a one and only watch…YM. In a collection…DJ. I like both blue dials equally, but I’d prefer a professional model over a classic as an everyday wearer, if it was my one and only watch.

YM is more versatile and more rare. Can’t go wrong with either, but I’d chose the YM.

Something so unique about the YM. I think there are a lot of similarities to the Sub which is as iconic as it gets. Though it is, as many of us know, all too common (which isn’t necessarily a bad thing). The uniqueness of the YM is special IMO.

The jubilee bracelet on a DJ is incredibly comfortable and will handle scratches much better than the PCL oyster. The DJ will also have more wrist presence (flutted &Jubilee). If going this configuration, the DJ is tough to beat.

If flutted and jubilee, I’d likely choose DJ, but it is a real toss up. Any other DJ config, I am not a fan.

Personal preference. Do you prefer classic or sport?

I agree 1000%
Fluted and Jubilee is the debar combo for DJ. That compares to the Yachtmaster is a tough choice.

YM on blue although hard to pass oh Rhodium if you have the chance. Was a bit disappointed finally trying on a DJ 41 size wise but it did look great. Fluted is such a nice touch.

YM = more sporty
DJ = more fancy

IMO, the yachtmaster has much better size, shape, and versatility. If you're not a big guy, i think the 41MM Datejusts look too big and goofy to be a proper dress watch. The yachtmaster has a thicker bezel which makes the dial seem a bit smaller and better proportioned for a watch ~40mm. I love the blue datejusts, but I think the datejust is best in classic 36 Two-tone with a white, silver or gold dial. The jubilee bracelets look great but stretch quickly. The blues in the dials are also a bit different. YT is extremely sensitive to light and is less "blue" in darker conditions- it's often bright blue or deep ocean dark blue/black. The datejust is a little more simple and just seems like a shiny blue, which is still beautiful.

So tough. Both amazing comfort. Blue vs blue I’d take the DJ because it doesn’t add in red.

DJ fluted and jubilee, any dial color but blue is my favorite. Awesome watch, so comfortable. One of the best Rolex for non watch lovers and watch lovers alike.

I am OCD when it comes to scratches and blemishes so DJ for me. The fluted bezel and the jubilee bracelet hides them much better.

YM blue. Think it's one of the best looking watches Rolex makes. And a bit unusual/uncommon. Weekly I go back and forth about trading my sub in for one. And I LOVE my sub!
