AD weighs in on 2018

I stopped into a local AD (Midwest / USA) today to say hi and assess current inventory. Same situation as around the planet (not much for SS), a YM and Milgauss. I was talking to the store manager and asked if he felt they got more, less, or the same amount of Rolex in 2018 as years previous. He responded, “At least the same, if not 15% more. The only difference is whatever SS that came in, basically left the same day.”

This isn’t earth shattering news, but goes to show- Rolex isn’t constricting supply or creating the shortage. Demand is greater than supply, at least for 2018.

The conspiracy theorists won’t like this. Not one bit. But yes, the same story from any dealer I’ve asked the question. Supply remains the same but demand is off the charts. People do love a good story though.

There has never been a shortage only a bigger demand. Everybody wants a steel rolex and most people who get a sought after model wants to put 2-5k in their pockets before they even left the AD and who can blame them.

Did you ask him if he's been selling his SS stock for a premium and with bundled undesirable pieces to the growing numbers of resellers/greys?

I asked my AD the same question a few days ago. She said that their supply from Rolex is less than it was a year ago and that supply is definitely tighter. She also said that demand is the highest it’s been in a long time. When I was there I saw a tourist ask for any SS model. He was told that he would have a better chance in his home country. This particular AD makes no apology for supporting local customers, and that is fair enough IMO .

Visit to my AD last week saw the same response, no difference in supply, but demand means the watches dont even hit the window or display case.

I know this AD and they don’t bundle or sell at premiums. They do have a list for each piece and honor it..... for the most part.
