Bi-metal Sports Watches

Given the difficulty in getting most of the sports models, excluding probably the Yachtmaster & Explorer, what is the Forums view on bi-metal models, (e.g. the Daytona TT) maybe with the exception of the rose gold GMT, these seem readily available, will these be the next models to become more sought after and maybe collectible?

A few do become more collectible than others like the root-beer nipple dial 1675, but its not such a great thing to buy watches for the material they're made out of.
The value depends a lot on the gold/ platinum in it rather than the watches collectibility.
If youre looking for a watch which will become collectible in future, try not to buy gold or platinum.

No and that’s why they’re readily available to a degree.

Bi-metal Sports Watches

Rolex makes bimetal sports watches brilliantly. Most are very good looking watches. If you like the look and it agrees with your style then do your research and buy the one you desire for a great deal.
As far as collectibility goes almost non of the modern 6 digit watches will ever be truly collectible as the 4 digit ones were. They are made to last unchanged way better than the older ones and in a way greater numbers. Don’t worry about the future value. Buy the one you love and enjoy the way it makes you feel now.

Not my cup of tea, and I wouldn't purchase one because of the inability to find the ss I actually wanted. Persevere on the hunt and don't settle.

While waiting for a stainless steel to be available I have been visiting my ad frequently - the last time I went in I saw a tt gmt and it was stunning and appealed to me more than I really could imagine. I never thought a tt or gold would be my thing but there you go. My advice dont follow the hype /crowd buy what you like. Go and try one on you never know. But don't buy one if it doesn't appeal to you just wait for what you want. I recall a few years ago seeing the blnr and trying it on didn't appeal to me but look at the demand now. Good luck. I bought the 116713 picking it up tomorrow.

There are plenty of ppl that like TT watches myself included. They look better than pure SS gives a pop of color and makes it something more special.

There are some iconic models like the 116613LB or the 116713LN is also very popular.

In terms of collectability if your a sucker to believe ANY 6 digit modern Rolex is collectible good luck to you because none of them are and IF they ever did become collectible one many decades away you will probably be dead anyway so who cares?

I really like the bimetal sub and the Daytona. not a fan of the yachtmaster or the yachtmaster ii (Rose gold) or the gmt (bezel just looks off to me for some reason with the gold inlays. maybe because it appears a lot "busier" than the sub)

Personally, I like the look of bi-metal watches but if you care about resale value then I would avoid purchasing one.

I do like the look of them I had a bluesy once and would gladly own another. That said there is a reason why they are readily available.

I myself like the T/T Sports Models, I have had the T/T Blue Dial Sub 116613LB & it’s a lovely Watch. But I was determined to get the T/T Daytona 116503 (New Model) with the White MOP 8 Diamonds Dial which I got in May of 2018. For the price I paid for this Watch I could have got the S/S Daytona Ceramic at an inflated price, but to be totally honest the Daytona C does nothing for me. Here are a couple of photos of my new T/T Daytona

So many people worried about resale. If that is your number 1 concern dont buy any Rolex. If that small amount of money is of major concern your not financially ready for a $10k watch its as simple as that.

Almost certainly none will be collectible. I’ve read speculation that the 116689 will be but that’s WG and platinum (technically bi metal) but I take that with a grain of salt. Buy TT if you like it, but not because you can’t get SS. I am not a TT guy, but the 116613lb is pretty killer. The one TT I would own. The TT sky dwellers are a great value but I’m not attracted to them. The new TT CHNR is also amazing in photos too but I have yet to see one in the metal. If you buy TT but really want SS, it’ll never work. Be patient, hunt, and buy what you love.

Totally agree, I buy a Watch for the beauty of it, not thinking about resale. Yes I do trade in some Watches over time, but that is only to keep my Watches up to date. If a Watch I have goes past the eight to ten year of age mark I like to update that particular Model. Some people like Vintage Model's I am not one of them. I like relatively new Watches

There are a lot of naysayers for TT Rolex watches. Frankly there are many I like. Just make certain it's one that grabs you and that you get a good discount on it.

The Blusey is a nice looking watch. The TT Daytona looks nice but the gold bezel is a scratch magnet.

I would agree with you to a certain extent. I have owned the T/T Blue Dial, Bezel Sub 116613LB & It is a beautiful Watch. As for the T/T Daytona, if you look after it & are careful with it you can avoid scratches to both the Bezel & PCL's. But because I only wear my Daytona once or twice a week I am fortunate enough to avoid scratches

I’d buy one but only because I Want one.

The CHNR is a stunning piece and arguably nicer than the full gold version IMO

I like both the TT and SS. I just got my first Rolex this week off of TRF which was the TT Sub (Z serial) and am on the wait list for my SS Sub C no-date. My grail is the Daytona 116518 white / gold dial and tan alligator. Just waiting a couple more years for that one.

That dial is gorgeous. Rolex MOP on these is so lively and deep. Wonderful selection. One BIG advantage of TT is that in some models it opens up additional dial options. Rolex seems to manage that very well. This piece is a perfect example
