Awkward to awesome in 60 seconds

I got a text yesterday morning from my AD - "Happy birthday!!" I thought dang, that's super nice, but... my birthday isn't for 2 months Do I just play it off and say thanks, or do I risk making it uncomfortable? I wrote her back and said "at my age I could really die at any moment, so I'm happy to celebrate early, though technically my birthday isn't until August." She wrote back "I know when your birthday is, but I have an early gift for you" and attached a picture of a coffin...

(insert record scratching to silence sound clip)

WHAT? My head started spinning... I was like this has to be a joke, but damn it would be a pretty mean one I wrote back, "is this for real?? Like, I can just come over there now?" I yelled to my wife in the other room "go get ready, I think I might be getting my watch today!!" Text comes back... "IT'S SO REAL" Side note: in spite of their misleading "zoom zoom" marketing campaigns, as it turns out, Mazdas don't go nearly fast enough for situations like this.

When I arrived they were very excited to see me. Mind you, not "wetting your pants" excited like I was, but it was clear that they enjoy the experience of making customers happy. She handed it to me right out of the coffin. I got to take the bezel protector off and it give it the first few winds of life, still in total disbelief. She asked if I wanted to take the stickers off but after spending 30 seconds on one I yielded and let her remove the other 25

Now I've been wearing it through biscuit making and bike rack installs and it's already filthy but dammit I can't find an angle, or a setting, that it isn't just gorgeous. I've added a couple quick pics so I don't get screamed at. I'll take some proper ones at some point.

I just wanted to share the experience because I know how jaded some people are, and in a lot of cases, rightfully so. Some ADs are terrible. But some are amazing. My case suggests it is still possible for a regular schmuck to get a dream watch if he's willing to be patient and forgoes the air of entitlement. As well, I truly believe that major milestones still hold a lot of weight with Rolex - in my case a 50th birthday.

Great story and incredible watch! It sounds like you have a really cool AD. It’s the negative ones we tend to hear about, but lets remember there are some pretty cool ones out there as well. It sounds like she really finds the experience of making someones day rewarding.
